Not on the Puma (MT82) - all you need is the right size hex key, a flexible pipe and the means to pump in 2.2 litres of golden happiness.

thanks, thats good news. got a few hex sockets thanks and i assume you dump all oil and pump in exactly 2.2 litres?

oh - my wife does yoga so this looks like a job for her Twisted Evil BM52

Bear in mind the drain and fill plugs are "sockets" themselves, so I just bought a hex key and cut it to size. The plugs are easily identifiable as they are black but the filler is awkward as hell to get to (you'll find out Laughing )

In any case this one is the drain:


and this one the fill:


Procedure:
Warm up gearbox oil a little by going for a short drive (e.g. 10 minutes).
Use 8 mm hex/inbus key to remove the fill plug FIRST and the drain plug SECOND. When replacing oil plugs, clean and tighten to about 35 Nm.

Volumes:
First fill at factory is reputedly 2.4 litres (2.6 litres on Mustangs)
Refill should be 2.2 litres (to account for residuals), althought anything between 2.2 and 2.4 is fine.

after a lot of messing around with pipes and funnels I found the easiest way was to fill the box from underneath the car.
If you are using normal 1litre containers with extendable flexible spouts then you can coax the spout into the filler hole (by bending it with your index finger) with the container upright. Then keeping the spout in the hole swivel the container to the upside down position. There is just enough clearance between the gearbox and the transmission tunnel to allow you to do this if you do 1/2 a litre at a time.(don't start with a full bottle or it will go everywhere).To get 2.2 litres in you need to do this about 5 times !

There are more professional ways of doing this job of course but thats what worked for me Thumbs Up

Thanks guys for all those reaasuring words... Wink

1 More question as per manual the oil to be use is the castrol 130 for the tranny. we only have 90 and 140 available here. i put 140 and it goes fine. is it good to put 90 as long its synthetic?
