Sorry I am not sure how to use the quote thing on here so you will have to read all of this to see if I reply to your post
![]() 1 There is nothing wrong with the Mantec snorkel but the air flow is not as good as the Safari ones. Any snorkel will restrict the airflow and anyone with some knowledge about airflow will understand that if you require air to flow oneway and then make it do an about turn by 180 degrees you are restricting the flow even further - adding a snorkel to any vehicle is like asking you or I to breath through a 4 ft pipe, you can breath, but it takes effort!!! 2 Landrover say that the Defenders dont need breathing kits on the Td5 or the new ones due to the fact that the "safe" wading depth on a defender is the top of the wheel rim - not the tyre but the rim and the basic kits are good enough for that - if however you wish to use the defender as it was supposed to be used you need a wading kit. I agree that with regards to the breathers, the positioning and height on the Td5 and new TDCi are un-altered other than the of the colour of the cable ties. 3 I agree the Safari snorkel wont fit, but if you give up at the first hurdle then you should not be driving a defender. Anything can be made to fit and Cheviot 4x4 have found a way for me ![]() Russell. |

Says Who ![]()
I know they can be fitted as I was at my dealers J V Lyke when they fitted a Safari RAI to an 07 Defender. When I saw what was needed I decided to fit the £150 cheaper easier Mantec RAI. As far as giving up and not driving a Defender WTF ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Andrew,
Why are you having a go at me with all of this "WTF" stuff on your post? I have not said anyting against you or Mantec other than the Safari RAI is a better system - the reason for this has been explained in my previous post!!!!! If you choose to fit the cheaper inferior option then so be it. I know the Safari RAI is not designed to fit the 90 Defender but that does not mean it wont and as its a "better system" then with a small amount of inginuity it will fit - oh and yes I am sure Safari will make the piping for one soon but your dealer has done this anyway!!!!! When I mentioned giving up and not driving a Defender this was a reference to the fact that when owning a Defender, if you fall at the first hurdle you and give up then maybe a Defender (or any LR come to that) may not be for you, but this was not directed at you as it was a general comment, so get off your high horse FCS ![]() With regards to the cost, you will never know ![]() Last edited by Japseroony on 17th Jan 2008 7:54pm. I'm hot having a go at you did you not notice the ![]()
Why is it better you have not explained why. Or where are you getting your info from.
Have you actually seen an 'approved' by LR Mantec RAI ![]() ![]() ![]()
Again says who ![]()
I own 5 Defenders 1 Disco 3 and a CJ7 Jeep so I simply drive over the hurdles. You were answering my post so I would presume it was directed at me. I don't care for horses so you wont catch me on one. ![]()
Ring Ring Ring Ring Hello is that Cheviot 4x4 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Please don't be offended its just a bit of banter ![]() ![]() ![]() One thing I have noticed though, after fitting the RAI to the 110sw performance has improved. I did not notice it on the Utility as we bolted loads of extras to it the same day. |

Well thank goodness for that as being built like a brick s***house (not) I was gonna have to come down and sort you out good and proper young man
![]() ![]() So, as I still aint managed to get the hang of the quote thing, here I go with an attempt to reply. The Safari RAI is a more direct airflow system and allows a greater amount of air to the engine. This is only a problem if you are either going to chip or re-map the engine for greater power as it would then need a greater amount of air. Indeed, a chap that I know of had to fit 2 Mantec RAI onto his Td5 as he replaced the intercooler, chipped the enging and various other things but the engine was starved of air with only 1 RAI. Prior to fitting the second RAI he did try the Safari RAI (albeit not fitted properly) but did not like the looks of it (strange chap) and found it was ok etc. I am not saying the Mantec is not a good system and indeed they have improved the looks greatly, actually it now looks like the Safari RAI ![]() ![]() So why have you got all of those Defenders? Do you own an offroad driving school? My dog dont much care for horses either as he was kicked in the head once - think thats why he is now so stupid ![]() Have you had any work done to the engines on your Defenders or are they standard? Thinking of having mine re-mapped by Allisport but not sure if its worth it with the new engine as the power is much better. |

Sorry Russel,, but, if the Mantec is good enough for Landrover,, then that's good enough for me I have binned 2 Safari RAI now, One on the Hybrid, as it was always getting hit, as they stick out to much, replace with a Southdown, much better for the job its get used for !!(and still goes very well, so no flow problem their !) The second one on the old TD5, for much the same reason, and replace with a Mantec,(anyone wants a good (as New) Safari RAI ![]() OK, working on your theory,,re air flow,, why then is the bore on the 07 Defender Mantec RAI, the same as the one RAI on my Sport,, ![]() ![]() Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

Good enought for LR
![]() ![]() As previously stated I am not saying there is anything wrong with the Mantec RAI but once you start re-mapping the engine the airflow is restricted at times - that is all I am saying. The bore on the RAI is not the issue, more the way the RAI is asking the air to flow ![]() ![]() |
