leak through air vent(?)
another day, another head scratcher (and leak) on the 90...

When replacing the door seals, which sorted the water ingress thankfully!, I noticed signs of water dripping down onto the footwell mat on the passenger side and on closer look it seems to be coming in through the air vent;

Still pretty new the the 90 and the quirks of the defender so today's question is;

Is this just a case of water getting in through the LHS bonnet vent and running down to this vent and then onto the mat? (2013, 90, 2.2 Tdci, no air con)

Its only noticeable during/just after heavy rain (which we've been getting a decent amount of recently) and looking through the workshop and parts manual hasn't helped me too much - so is this "just the way it is" or is something likely to be missing or leaking within the cooler/blower assembly that would be causing this?

Either through wingtop vent and via ducting, noting there is a duck bill drain valve in the duct that is supposed to drain any water ingress but it gets blocked. Easy fix is a snow cowl.

Or it’s water from windscreen / bulkhead running onto heater motor / ducting. Ensure you have not lost the rubber strip on wing edge abutting bulkhead or that it’s fitted correctly.

Several topics on both if you do a search.

Given that it appears to be coming from the top of the aperture, not the bottom, it could also be running down the inside of the bulkhead from the windscreen and dripping off the acoustic mat at the top of the aperture. Unfortunately it is not easy to see without some dismantling.

If it was originating inside the blower housing I would expect it to be coming from the bottom rather than the top of the aperture (which, incidentally, is the recirculation air intake to the heater, so if you set the heater to recirculate the flap should open and you might be able to see more).

Good point blackwolf, I did not really look at the picture Confused

If due to windscreen frame to bulkhead seal some Captain Tolly’s creeping crack cure may help

Thanks both and useful info Blackwolf, thanks.

It’s definitely from the top so I’ll check the windscreen/bulkhead as that makes sense from what I’ve been able to see of the water path so far - too wet now so looks like a tomorrow job.

I’ll dust of the capt T’s - my disco sunroofs and gutters are pretty much held together with that so I’m well versed with using it!!

Will update as and when I find out more or fix 2013 ('62) Defender 90 HT, 2.2 Tdci
