First issue with Defender!
This morning l've been driving the Defender (110 2.2) and seem to have lost most of the synchromesh when changing from 4th to 5th gear.

lt was fine yesterday and all the other gears are smooth with no issues.

Looking online this seems to be common with this transmission and over on the Ford forums there's even a class action lawsuit in progress from Mustang owners with this transmission.

So, is it even worth considering a repair? The Defender is still under warranty from the independent LR specialist dealer l bought it from. But l've read of people with these vehicles having issues when new, and the gearbox replaced two or three times.

l've changed the oil recently, using the correct 75w/90 specification
and amount (2.4 litres)

l wonder if the fault might disappear the same way it arrived, or if it's a sign of impending failure ? No big deal, l expected this kind of thing tbh. But just need to know whether to just accept it as "character" or take it back to the dealer.

take it back - I think it is a big deal on low miles 110 - slow but sure R380 in my old 90 is still smooth as it approaches 200k

You are clearly a very easy going Guy..

....but you must return it.

This is why we buy from Dealers, because they offer warranty.
This is why Dealers charge premium prices.

As everyone says

I am a specialist defender dealer myself, if it breaks in the first 3 months send it back, they have a legal duty to repair to your satsifaction and it is why we charge more to cover potential warranty issues. not just to line our pockets Rolling with laughter

Thank you for the advice. l've been driving the Defender today, done around 45 miles and there's been no issues with the gear change at all.

l will tell the dealer about it. But tbh quite a few of the "Puma" Defenders l've test driven had similar issues. My TD5 would at times not like the change from second to third gear.
