help! where does this bolt go?
Found this bolt on the drive underneath where the front of my 2013 tdci defender gets parked but I can't find where it came from. As you can see from the pic it is 85mm long, M8 thread and 10mm af head.
If anybody can advise it would be much appreciated. Thanks
Will be getting it up on a ramp tomorrow to have a look from underneath but nothing appears to be missing when looking under the bonnet.
Touch wood everything still seems to be working.

At that length, could it be a through chassis bolt, there are a few of those

Unfortunately it's a very standard LR bolt and could have come from almost anywhere, your only clue is the length.

I'd be checking manifolds, the alternator (ladder) bracket and alternator, aux belt area ,and back towards the bellhousing.

Do you not have a jam jar for all the ‘left over’ nuts, bolts and screws that you have left over from any jobs that you can refer back to once you realise that it is missing…..six months later.

Unless you lose the jam jar in the shed or garage that is ….. Whistle

Is that a bolt that goes through the chassis to one of the chassis tie down loop?

Tie down ring bolts are M10 and something like 120mm in length.

Have you had any work done on the Defender in the last few months? Garage could have left it somewhere in the engine bay and it's eventually fallen out.

Check your rear upper damper mounts, you should the mount with three bolts through the chassis

If you reverse in that could be why it was on the ground near the front of the vehicle.

My guess:

How lucky you are that it dropped on your drive! Else you would only find out when things started to misbehave.

The threads dont seem to be rusty, so the probability is that the bolt was in a blind hole. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
