2.4 Temp gauge sits high
My 2.4 TDCI temp gauge is sitting just over half and under 3/4. Essentially it gets up to temp and then just sits in that spot without fluctuating even under heavy load, car doesn't overheat or anything like that.

Coincidentally I believe there is a weep on the heater exchange valve, but this will be addressed shortly. Expansion tank is low but certainly no puddles under the vehicle or white smoke driving around. I don't think these would impact the gauge.

What can cause the gauge to sit high? I was under the impression that (much like my other tdci's) it would sit in the middle, until things would be very wrong in which case it should rise to the very top? (Not been in that situation before so just throwing that out there).

CHT Sensor may need replacing, but check for signs of coolant leaks that are dried and traces of it, especially rad and water pump.

Is there any possibility water has just been tipped in it? You may find if you replace the OAT Coolant that will solve your issues. ____\We|Will|Win/___

The puma engines can be a bit temperamental on temperature if the expansion tank is not at the correct level. Therefore once the heater valve is replaced ( a very easy thing to do and you only loose a small amount of coolant) and the expansion tank is filled to level, then if the loss of coolant was down to the dripping heater valve the temperature gauge should show as normal.

If the coolant has not been changed before it’s worth doing it now, again a well documented process on here is easy to follow and if the workshop filling process is followed it’s pretty straight forward.

If after the above you are still loosing fluid and the guage is showing higher then before, then it is possibly a head gasket issue.

Thank you.

Yes at least 1L of water is in the coolant the majority is pink/red OAT as the drips are that colour and is very prominent colour.

I've added more OAT so when the expansion tank was hot it was filled to the correct line. I've gone for a 6mile drive with my nanocom attached, general driving upto 50mph with a max hit of 88 degrees and then reduced after that. The coolant does not appear to have dropped, however will clearly need to be monitored.

Heater valve will be replaced in the coming weeks (I'm aware there is a very good online tutorial on how to do it), however it's going into the garage for service anyway so ideal for them to just do it.

Ps there are prior service notes to the vehicle having had an erratic temp/fuel gauge and that was solved via a replacement earthing strap approx 3-4 years ago. I think it has read at this current level since then.

But now it's just annoying me that it doesn't sit in the middle. Laughing It instead sits at the bottom of the temperature logo.

I will report back on findings/solution. Unless anybody knows beforehand etc.

I would suggest it's electrical rather than coolant problem. Start by checking all earth's. Add new ones if you want belt and braces. The batter to t box via chassis quite often corrodes badly on the chassis mount part. Cheers
