Commercial Vehicle classification
Sorry to open this can of worms again!

However

l have read that as the Defender 110 "Utility" has a payload over 1 tonne, it's classed as a Commercial Vehicle for tax, BIK and VAT.

Surprised at the lack of interest in this, as it can be highly beneficial if you want to put the vehicle through a business.

United Kingdom 2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 USW Corris Grey
I'm sure you are correct, lightning.

There is discussion on the Grenadier thread, if I recall, because their pickup / utility can't take 1 tonne and of course, LR didn't want to go down that route with the new Defender.

That particular article was published back in 2012 I believe when they launched the Puma utility wagon. There has been a lot of debate since as to whether they actually qualify for van benefit or company car benefit which has a huge effect on the amount of income tax payable.... The reclamation of VAT is a different topic...
Additionally, the rules around commercials / vans / pickups have all changed as of April this year anyway, vehicles already in your ownership as of that date maintain whatever status they had for 3 years but any purchases after that date are treated as cars, I believe that also includes purchase of used vehicles.
