Walk away locking issues
If you have this feature enabled it does come with some initially puzzling issues.
About a fortnight ago my daughter was to take the Defender away for a weekend trip. She had a key in the car and I had my key in my pocket. As I walked to the house her alarm went off with her and her husband inside. I returned and found her key would not then start the car and had a warning on the dash to say the key was disabled. So I left her with my working key and took the disabled one back to the house.

This was a mystery until today and the disabled key worked fine when they came home.

Today I found the answer because my wife and I had keys and I parked while she went to post stuff. As soon as she walked about 10 metres away the car locked, with me in the driving seat and the alarm went off. The penny dropped and I realised that her key had locked the car and when a key is locked inside it is disarmed and the alarm system is set. So to prevent this happening again, I went into Pivi settings and switched the walk-away locking off. It was a nuisance anyway. The walk-to unlocking was switched off long ago by me.

While I was at it I disabled the keyless entry. For the weekend we are going to stay in what may be a high crime area [Telford] so disabling keyless entry makes it far harder for any potential car thief. I’ll reinstate keyless entry next Tuesday when we arrive home.

The same things apply to Range Rovers as well.

I disabled all that malarkey on day 1 and rely solely on the fob buttons only 👌
Also use a Stop Lock on the steering wheel when visiting the city 🤣 MY25 90 D350 X-Dynamic HSE in Silicon Silver and coil sprung
1974 Series 3 Lightweight = "Millie"
Many Range Rovers and Land Rovers over the years 😂
1949 80" - still in family since 1975

I use www.glenrands.co.uk Great independent specialist!
