New steering wheel
Good evening
I’m keen to get a new smaller steering wheel, thinking 15”, I can’t decide between leather and wood, I love the look of the all wood momo one but not sure what there like to drive with and how tough they are, just thinking about taking my steering lock off and on
What’s your thoughts please

That 3rd photo shows quite a "deep" steering wheel, keep in mind that this increases the distance to the wiper and indicator stalks unless it comes with quite a shallow boss. I have a plain/flat steering wheel from paddock's, but it has a fairly high boss, hence the distance to the stalks is somewhat increased but still manageable. It was fairly cheap, about 45,- roughly 10 yrs ago. I see it goes for about twice that nowadays though, see DA4650 on their website. Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

Oh by the way, I heard some bend their stalks to overcome the increased distance... Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

wood stering wheel
I've one of the wooden ones, zero /minimal rise on an Optimill slimline steering boss

comfy to drive with and not a problem in the winter, you need the slimline boss/zero rise as otherwise its too close to you and the switchgear is as well miles away

the only issue I have is the steering lock takes a bit of atoll

Regards

Rob

I don't recall, it's been a while. Better check with paddock's. Not that mine sits uncomfortably high, I quite like it but obviously it depends on your personal preference and body characteristics (eg arm length). The distance to the stalks is quite workable for me, medium sized hands. Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

I have had the wooden momo fitted for 5 or 6 years now and find it nice to use on and off road although if the power steering decides to take the day off, it is noticeably heavier to turn than the genuine original in slow parking manoeuvres.

I have it mounted on an optimill detachable boss so that I can run their boss lock so do not have any wear issues from a steering wheel lock

The optimal quick release boss and swivel lock combination are the ideal combination for security and ease of use. I would recommend their use on whatever wheel you go for, noting they do fit the mono range of steering wheels, but you do need to double check.

I have a leather MoMo with with an Optimil quick release boss (so I can use their lock) and I'd recommend it.

Agree with Trev, Momo wheel, Optimil QR boss and Optimil lock. Fitted them a number of years ago, the ideal combination. Thoroughly recommend. Defender 90XS SW
