P400e Grill Lights - Air Flow?

Hi, thanks to the detailed knowledge on here we purchased a P400e in the end and haven't looked back!

We use it in some pretty remote parts of Scotland, and whilst it's an 'X' the matrix lights don't quite cut it. I'm therefore looking at some additional lighting, specifically Lazer's with the i-LBA function (eg Triple-R 1250, Triple-R 1000 or maybe Linear 18, etc.).

We do some pretty long drives that include long stretches of motorway, steep gradiants on B-Roads and some off-road surfaces in a single run so guessing the engine will be pretty loaded at times (especially as it is not uncommon for these runs to be 12 to 14 hours non-stop by switching drivers). As a result I am pretty neurotic about the effects of restricting / affecting factory air-flow (I don't want to introduce any unreliability or issues as it will always bite when in the middle of nowhere!).

Ideally I'd prefer to have lights installed into the grill (not convinced about the stick on roof pods - although they do look cool!) and combined with I-LBA I think low mounted lights are a bit kinder to other road users on the dark but less remote stretches.

With all the above in mind, has anyone got direct experience and / or technically based knowledge as to whether;

1) If there is any chance grill mounted lights could cause an issue for us?

2) If not, then are there any advantages (especially in terms of air flow) of two smaller units over a single bar, and is there any particular location / grill that is better in terms of miniming any potential impact?

3) If yes, how robust are the stick on roof pods (can I really trust them) and has anyone got some that can accomodate the I-LBA versions (it doesn't seem clear from what I've seen thus far if the I-LBA variants are supported in any of those pods)?

Sorry for all the questions - but I trust those on this forum more than marketing info!

Hi Tuath, I've been driving with LazerLamps Roof Pods for a few months now. They're really solid and stable. The light from the roof is a huge improvement, and as you say, it looks cool too...
In Germany, connecting them to the high beam isn't permitted because it would exceed the reference number of 100. I have a special switch inside. Incidentally, the A-pillar mounts for the LazerLamps utility lights are also very good and provide a very wide beam to the left and right.

One disadvantage is that you can clearly hear the Roof Pods above 100 km/h due to the air resistance.

Still, I fully recommend them!

Hi Hazelhunter, I certainly think they certainly look cool

Trouble is the Lazerlamp roof pods only offer the Liner 12 light range and they do not have i-LBA as an option. Only the Linear 18 and the Triples have i-LBA options

So I am still at sea unless someone knows of a roof pod that does fit any of the i-LBA lazer lamps, or anyone that can inform me on the grill mount airflow concerns I have for our use case.

Thanks for replying though, fingers crossed there's a way forward to get some i-LBA enabled extra candles on the road (and especially the sides to help spot those deer!)
