Defender LED replacement side light bulbs
I would like brighter sidelight bulbs for my 2011 Puma - can you replace the original halogen W5W with LED T10 bulbs front & rear? - any recommendations for manufacturer? Thanks.

Classic car leds, good quality and long lasting. The difference to ebay and halfords offerings is night and day.

I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but don’t put LED bulbs in factory fittings, as the certification for them is then void.

Use incandescent bulbs in original fittings, or go for certified LED units.

It can also cause problems with waterproofing and sealing, light spread, colour tone etc.

The factory fit is certified for using incandescent bulbs and its waterproofing and light spread.
LED units also are, but with the benefit of better waterproofing and lower current consumption, plus extended life.

It might seem minor, but obligatory lighting is crucial, if someone crashes into you, they could say they didn’t see you and if the sidelight for example doesn’t meet specs..

Of course you have free choice, it can of course be done, but if it was me I would go one way or the other.

Just my option of course. Very Happy ____\We|Will|Win/___

I dont think the sidelights are halogen.

Why not just buy LED lamp units, Wipac etc make them that just plug and play.

I bought the RDX led side lights and tail lights, because I was fed up of the bad contacts blowing the bulbs. They’ve been on a couple of years now with no problems, the tail/ brake is especially bright. I wouldn’t bother with led bulbs, as said the fittings are still poor. 1983 110 automatic OM606

I did the same 8 years and 80K miles ago, no problems at all since.

I also did indicators with the RDX relay, again no issues, and i tow.

I think I’ll do the flashers, they’re fine but the LED’s would be brighter and offer better visibility to others I guess. It’s good to know they are problem free after eight years though, I still carry and old tail light as a spare, just in case! 1983 110 automatic OM606

All RDX on mine as well, they’ve been excellent. Thumbs Up

Headlights are Nolden for me.

Never had any issues with anything.

Waterproofing is unbeatable, brighter within reason, faster light display with brake reaction,
more visibility and better light spread.

I think I got the indicator sidelights on the wings from 4x4 Overlander. ____\We|Will|Win/___

Are RDX aftermarket LED side and brake/tail light units ECE approved and appropriately marked?

I presume that they are, but I've never checked.

If not, they're no more and no less legal than fitting an 'LED bulb' in a standard unit.

I have the Wipac LEDs fitted to my 2015 110 Utility. They have been fitted since 2018, I had no issues, and they are type approved. I've changed all except the indicators as, at the time, I was uncertain as to which relay to use. I will probably change the indicators at some point. Headlights are Nolden. In all the years that I've run Land Rovers, and of all the mods I have ever done, the Noldens have had by far the biggest impact.
