Genuine Denso VCV - 2.4 TDCI and some other questions.
Morning all,

Hello, this is my first post, having purchased my 2010 52,000 mile SW XS 90 back in February. Since purchasing, I've been on a journey of refurbishment and spending!, having replaced the suspension with a kit from Alive, replaced all bushes with Super Pro, new Demand exhaust, snorkel, roof rack, a set of sawtooth alloys and a host of other bits and pieces to bring it up to standard - I can't quite get my head around the design quality of the heater valve however! Have resigned myself to requiring an under bonnet trip should you actually want anything close to cool air entering the cabin!

8 months in, a silly angle grinder induced trip to A&E, countless hours of hand dirtying work accompanied with rapid wallet weight reduction program has me to the point where I can honestly say - I'm in deep! but despite all of this I love the damn thing! and so does both my wife and son. The company car, with its myriad of computer controlled, overbearing safety features has been relegated to only doing rips to work (I do quite like the easily controlled aircon however!).

Anyway, my question. How do I know if my recently purchased 'Denso' VCV is, actually Denso? I purchased from LR Centre, having selected the Denso option. I received an unbranded box with a 'G' suffix part number - what I believe is a Britpart labelling practise to indicate a genuine part. The LR centre part showed an image of the valve, metal gasket, 2 Allen bolts an o ring and 2 black rubber 'things' . The advert said only the aftermarket part would receive the 2 Allen bolts. I rang them and was assured it was genuine. I happened to browse upon the same image on the PF Jones site where it categorically stated the part was a PF jones part! click elsewhere for genuine Denso??? I'm not convinced I have a genuine part.

The valve was installed. I ran the calibration/learn and all was well. Instead of then running the pilot correction learn, I inadvertently restarted the vcv learn but aborted at the earliest opportunity (using the BAS RRC tool) The Pilot learn was then started and finished successfully. Will the pilot learn have been affected by the aborted VCV learn? Will the aborted VCV learn have wiped the initial successful learn?

I changed the original valve as I had noticed an occasional jump in idle fuel pressure from a usual 3300+/- to around 6600+/-

The same happens with the new valve.

The car drives OK, idles OK but is a bit injectory noisy when cold - nothing much but it's there. The car has plenty of performance (BAS city tune) but does have a bit of black smoke under hard acceleration.
I don't think these are the sweetest of sounding engines, so perhaps it is as it should be but I don't have prior experience to guide me.

Thoughts please. thank you for reading my first post Very Happy

Did you run the "learns" with the remap on?

It is very difficult to find genuine Denso parts these days. Puma 110" SW

Thanks MK, I did come across this thread - very interesting that others question genuine parts too! I've just managed to relearn both VCV and pilot - god it seems fussy as to when these learn procedures will work or not but at least it's done now . Its going in to my well trusted LR Indi for brake lines on Wednesday, I ask them on cold running noise, like I say, it seems to go well enough. Many thanks for your help MK. Justin.
