Go for the nut version, I had a Turbo Diesel 90 years again and lost a wiper arm on the M3 in a downpour.
The grub screw at the time always allowed to arm to move on the spindle and never really felt secure….disappearing altogether in a sea of truck spray proved that…. ![]() |

I too have lost wiper arms on the motorway. Now I carry spares, complete with a blade attached. 1999 Defender TD5 110

From memory I think the wiper hole needs modifying to take the newer wiper spindle.
Early Td5 has round hole in bulkhead, later has oval shape. |

They are also a different size wheel to the earlier ones and so you will need to swap the drive wheel in the motor too, else the sweep angle will be wrong.

Cheers all. Deffo something to think about...but.....I don't really fancy modifying the bulkhead to accept the later wiper boxes/shafts. 1999 Defender TD5 110

If you look at the later td5 bulkhead, the pressing curves around the wiper holes, whilst the earlier td5 and 300tdi do not have this curve.
What's curious though is that none of the remanufactured bulkheads, regardless of spec, have this curve in the pressing. The profile of all of them just seems the same as the 300/early td5. This makes me wonder if it is perfectly acceptable to drill out the earlier bulkhead to fit the wider shafts or not. |
