I think the seals your mechanic is referring to are the internal oil seals around the centre bearing in the turbo housing itself. I've never seen these advertised for a TD5, but a Turbocharger specialist might be able to source them.
When the central seals wear, the turbo can suck oil from the bearing feed under vacuum conditions which leads to burning the oil in the exhaust and smoke. Can also cause coking if it's run for a long time in that condition. 2003 TD5 110 CSW Instagram: e12_hue |

I’m wondering what is the purpose of this kit? https://ebay.us/m/NlvQmU If I end up replacing CHRA, is there another seal kit? I’m guessing the CHRA will come with them, but not sure. Thank you again. |

Those seals are for when you remove the turbo from the manifold etc and then refit. 1999 Defender TD5 110
