 2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Keswick Green
Footwell Dripping Water/Condensation
My 2.2 puma is dripping from the outside of the black piping...happening on both right and left side . The water is running down behind the rubber matting into the footwell..wonderfully being absorbed by the sound/foam matting behind the rubber.

I will say, I am in a VERY hot climate using the AirCon 100% of the time. Is this something I can fix? The constant soaking wet footwells are a bit unsettling.

You can try checking the duckbill drains under the truck, give them a squeeze to open but beware of the falling water that will follow.

When was the last time you had your AC condenser coil cleaned? A clogged coil will result in lesser air flow, icing of the coil, and drips into the cabin. I use AC all the time in these parts as well, and have the whole system checked and cleaned at least once a year. But with funds a bit scarce at the moment, I figure I can get away with every other year for now.

Also, maybe check the drain holes along the ducting under the wing fresh air intake, maybe they are clogged and the accumulated condensation will then make its way to the the pipe you featured in the photo?

Do you mean 'condenser' or do you mean 'evaporator'? I suspect the latter.

The condenser is the thing by the radiator at the front of the car, the evaporator is the thing inside the heater box. Paradoxically condensation will not form on the condenser but will on the evaporator which is the reason for the drain from the heater box under the car.

If the drain is blocked the heater box will fill with condensate until it starts to leak out of any available orifice. If the drain spigot has been broken or damaged condensate will onto the trnasmission tunnel and then into the footwells under the tunnel soundproofing.

Unfortunately the heater box is not easy to get to, nor is the evaporator which is inside the heater box - total removal of the dash is necessary.

This is helpful...can you point me to the duckbill drain holes under the truck? I can go and check those now. I do remember on my discovery 1 in maybe 1996 (I am old I guess!) there was a couple of these I just dont remember where they will be located. I will also check the wing vent...another great idea. I am just hoping I do not need to pull the dash apart per the other post!

As far as I am aware, the condensate drain on the Puma is just above the gearbox. Very conveniently located.

Mine drips down the gearbox, onto the crossmember. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Hi blackwolf,

Yeah, meant the evaporator. I always get the two mixed up. Annoys me to no end.

The drain is located above the gearbox as Dinnu described. It's the reason why you have a puddle underneath the vehicle when stationary and using the AC. It can be alarming to see the drip drip drip from that area and sometimes other people point out I have a strong leak. I of course explain that it's from the AC and nothing to worry about.
