110 Rear door sticking when towing a trailer
Hey Guys, I was towing a Ifor William HB505 horse box around yesterday. It was mostly unladen except for some grass mats I was recovering from the the Missus Field.

I noticed that the rear door had become stiff and the door was catching on the latch (like the door had lowered slightly. Once I removed the trailer the door returned to normal operation.
Is this normal?, I have only had 90s before. Its a 2015 110 UXS with 60k on it. It has the genuine Landrover tow bar with drop plate and supports running to back to the chassis.

I checked and nothing is loose that I can see. I even dropped the jockey wheel with the trailer still attached and took the weight off the Landy to see what change it made and nothing changed. It was not till I dropped off the trailer that it went back to normal again 2015 Puma 2.2 110 XS Utility Station Wagon - 2024 - Present

Not normal and I suggest requires diagnosing.

The only way in which I can imagine this happening is if the body is flexing and that in turn suggests the chassis is flexing. If the chassis is flexing I suspect that there is a serious flaw with the chassis.

I'd be checking the chassis very closely for rot around the rear cross-member.

Does not sound right at all. I’ve done a lot of towing with horse boxes with various 110’s and have never encountered anything like that.
As BW suggested, I would give the chassis and body fixings a thorough inspection.

This is even weirder, but as stated earlier, this normally happens when chassis flexes a bit as the body has to follow. It does happen when a Defender is cross axled, as the chassis is not infinitely stiff. My 90s always did it, just enough to notice.

Do you have a spare wheel on the door? Was the ground flat? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I backed the Landy up on some car ramps and rolled around on a creeper last night. I had a good poke around and found nothing of concern. There was some peeling paint around weld seems etc but I poked around with a screwdriver and there was only surface rust (a chassis treatment is on the cards soon).

Only thing I can think is that I don’t think I was parked on level ground so may hay have been just enough to twist the chassis.

I took a few photos of the latch from the inside of the car last night. The Blue Arrow shows the part of the door latch that was catching on the door frame part of the latch (Red Arrow, Striker?)

When shut normally the door does not rest on the door frame latch at the bottom as you can see a gap (green arrow). There is only a few millimetres gap and it was not catching here so it must have only been a small amount of movement.

I will do some more investigation when I put the trailer on again next to make sure nothing sinister is going on.
