Installing Software Update

Hoping that I might tap into the collective wisdom/knowledge for some help with installing the latest software update on my 2020 Defender 110 D240. I bought the car 2nd hand in May 25 - the last update was installed in Dec 24. Each time I turn off the car, it tells me that the latest update has been downloaded and needs to be installed. I have tried repeatedly to install it by selecting "Update now", ensuring that there is a good connection to my home wifi and double locking the vehicle - but with no luck. I have tried charging the battery fully and that didn't work - I have tried to install it with the battery charger connected - no luck either.

I understand that it needs a good battery to install. The "Stop Start" doesn't work - is that an indication of a weak battery and might that be the issue stopping the install? I suspect that the car still has the original battery but before I replace the battery, does anyone know of anything else that I can try to make the install work? 2020 LR Defender 110 D240

Did you activate the alarm? I read somehwere that it needs to be activated.

Thank you and if you mean activating the alarm by locking the vehicle and then pressing the lock button again within 3 secs - then yes - I think so! 2020 LR Defender 110 D240

I think double pressing the button on the key fob should be enough.

Mine was downloaded Thursday last week and I have attempted to install it every day since… today finally update was installed..

Hmmm...... haven't tried today but ordered new battery.

Don't forget the BCM needs resetting when the new battery is fitted.

No upgrade and no registration

I think that a call to Land Rover will do the trick. I am in the same situation and bought a second hand New Defender and registering the car with me in order to install upgrade has proven so far impossible. I had the car for two days and couldn't call at weekend so tomorrow I will give it a go and repost any findings

I think you will find that Land Rover pushes out Software Updates. i.e., their servers poll a group of cars and check what software version they are on. It then allows the vehicle to download the update. I think this cycle is about 4 to 6 weeks to get through all vehicles. Not sure if it is different in different counties. Thus, if your vehicle is not properly registered, it could take upto 6 weeks for the next round.

I wouldn't be surprised if the recent IT hack issues they have paused software updates at the moment.

Also, my vehicle would not get software updates. ie the screen never said updates available. It went back to Land Rover twice. 1st time, they reset all the modules and asked me to wait 6 weeks and see what happens. Nothing happened. The next time, they worked with Land Rover UK, who pushed out the update for my vehicle. I suspect something had gone wrong with my vehicle in their server.

I can’t get updates either - it’s 100% because of the hack.
After all, the hacker could have been able to change the update package, so they don’t want people downloading some bogus update to their car. Current (LR):
