I'd ask the dealer how much removing them would change the price?
If the dealer removes them will they they charge you the labour costs? Will they source you a replacement bumper and side air intake? If so how much? What spec'? Are they new or just items they have in the workshop? I'd keep them and sell them on and fit replacements that I was happy with. You could have £500 to £1000 worth of resale parts depending on condition and having willing buyers Craig. “Don't believe everything you read on the internet.” ― Abraham Lincoln www.scotgrc.co.uk |

This isn't really an answer to your question, lightning, but there have been many discussions on here with people who have added extra shinny bits to their trucks (and in some circumstances, spent a small fortune doing it). They then become disillusioned that the truck isn't worth the book price plus the £X or a percentage of £X of money the aftermarket bling has cost.
The general consensus of opinion was that to make the most bang for your buck, it is more cost effective to remove as much of the said bling before parting with the truck and sell the bits privately. Now, looking at it from a dealers point of view, like any higher spec vehicle, they will be looking to use the rack, snorkel and DRL's as a selling point. Always have the conversation with them. I doubt they will be wanting to return it to stock for you, but you can but ask. I would probably buy it as seen (as long as it is in your price range) and remove these items and sell them on here, of eBay. |

Traditionally accessories didn’t add much value but made the vehicle more appealing to some buyers. I sold a Jeep once for £600, complete with a set of virtually new tyres which cost much the same, but I couldn’t sell it without the wheels. I doubt the dealer will knock more than a couple of hundred off the price, which they would probably do anyway. I’d buy it as is then sell or swap the unwanted items for what you might want. As for what they are worth, I would look up the cost for the new ones and sell for half, assuming the condition is excellent. 1983 110 automatic OM606

Buy it as it is...
review what you have and dispose of the parts as you go. You are in control then. The RAI maybe "plumbed in " correctly so more of a job to remove. It maybe be bolt on for appearance. When you get it home you will find out these things Clemmo |

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression removing the raised air intake will leave holes in the wing

The dealer isn't interested in the extras, they would remove them but the price would be the same. l'll ask about the snorkel because if there's extra holes in the wing it's going to cost me to get it rectified after it's removed.
The Defender is £30,000. lt's a 2.2 XS Utility with 49,000 miles and has the best chassis l've seen in probably thirty Defenders l've looked at over the last three years. The bodywork is also immaculate with no oxidation anywhere. l have also seen a couple of XS Station Wagons at a local dealer, they were also in lovely condition but over £40,000. lt's surprising how bad a TDCi chassis can get in ten years. A lot of them have gone past superficial rust and are into actual corrosion. |

Well that was a waste of time l've been up to look at it and they've taken most of the bits and pieces off anyway

My post was not fully accurate l've updated it.
They said the DRL bumper was rusted and they thought it looked better without it. They've fitted a standard bumper with end caps. The snorkel was actually still on the vehicle but (having read the post above about the holes in the wing) l asked them to remove it and make good any holes, which they have agreed to do. So l've left a deposit. They're also going to waxoyl it but l've asked for clear waxoyl because the chassis is so good l would rather it not covered in black gunge. l've driven it and there's no clunk in the transmission so it looks like it's had the output shaft changed which is a bonus. |

The wing and windscreen pillar will have to be re painted.
I would check this over before accepting delivery ![]() ![]() |

They're going to do the screen surround and fill the holes left by the snorkel bracket.
They're using a local body shop that are very well respected and l've used a few times over the years, so ll am confident it will be a good job. l am going to call in to the body shop and have a chat with them about it anyway. |
