I noticed that on my MOT record this year (and possibly a few before) and thought i should look into it. From memory it is something to do with a composite suspension link that disintegrates or some such wording.
I reckon after 30 years if it was going to break it either has and has been replaced. Or possibly has been replaced anyway as a matter of course. As such I stopped worrying. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green- Slowly Turning into Keswick Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

I was completely unaware of this, and am more or less completely unconcerned!
But try as I might I can’t think of anything resembling a ‘composite suspension link’ in a 300Tdi Defender. Am I missing something? Maybe one of the rubber donuts on the propshafts used in diesel Disco 300s? (Though that would be transmission rather than suspension?) I just tried searching for it again but am currently enjoying some sunshine in Tenerife and the google results are coming back differently.
I have found two possible ones. The first which was the issue I found when searching in the UK is common to the RRC as well and is some composite suspension component that keeps the rear axle in the correct alignment. I guess this could be the tie bars with their metelastic bushings or the big chassis mounting donuts. The second is the possibility of the front left flexible brake pipe fouling the wheel/tyre and abrading through (this could be on LHD vehicles though as not seen this one before). This probably doesn't help avoid any confusion but just in case. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green- Slowly Turning into Keswick Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

I don’t remember this being a recall, but another known issue was to do with the timing pulley allowing the belt to wear on the front cover.
I kept mine as a paperweight in the study ![]() |
