M57 manual in 200tdi
Hello all, looking into putting a m57 in my 200tdi as the title says. My question is, would it fit in the standard lt77 seatbox and gearbox tunnel or would it need to be changed for the r380?

Thanks

From what I understand the lt77 isn’t the strongest of gearboxes, so how long it would last behind the m57 I don’t know, I thought the m57 started at around 185hp? That said I had an lt77 behind a 165 hp V8 way back and it was fine. I’d guess that the m57 would make a fair bit more torque than the V8 though. I thought the r380 was a straight swap with the lt77 anyway? Just my thoughts. 1983 110 automatic OM606

The (removable) tunnel piece and the shape of the seatbox cutout where it connects are different between the LT77 and R380 so they are not a straight swap.

If you are using a 6hp auto box then you can use the LT77 era tunnel. I believe (I fitted an auto) the manual BMW gearboxes need more room and require you to use an R380 tunnel.

Thanks Mo, that’s what I was after!

Would you use a defender ratio transfer box or a disco?

It depends on which gearbox you are using and whethef or not you are using it for towing.

From your thread question your fitting m57 to r380? So 185/narrow block?

And want to know if r380 gbox.will fit under lt77 tunnel? No.it won't.

Tbox ratio, depends on final gbox output, tyre size and diff ratios.

For cooling engine likes to be 2k rpm or just above. Cheers
