Not quite. My wife bought a new Evoque today and managed to get it registered at 1600 this afternoon after the fault was fixed.

So here is the Million Dollar Question!

With so many things connected to the internet, lots of manufacturers who make products that are connected to what used to be called ‘the Internet of things’ don’t put cyber security high on their to do list. There has always been concerns that it could be quite easy for a hacker, organisation or Country (there have been worries about China and the vast number of cars produced there now), could just stop your vehicle or television or fridge freezer or anything that is connected to the web.

There are also concerns at how little security there are on the systems that control buildings. Could you imagine the implications if all the lights went out in the head office of a large organisation or the HVAC system started blowing cold air out in the middle of winter? It wouldn’t be as bad as hitting their servers but would cause enormous disruption.

l have often thought this. Even the lights on my mountain bike are connected to the internet. Recently they had a software update!

Although there's a lot of systems and l don't think disabling one would affect the others. But it's possible they could hack a vehicle manufacturer and brick all the vehicles with a software update. But l can't see how it could be global, for instance an attack on LR wouldn't affect BMW vehicles. But it could go back down the supply chain.

Concern is understandable but we are way far from “Skynet”… Smile
Uk at least has the PSTI Act which now requires IoT devices to meet minimum cybersecurity standards.
And mass scale attack on cars is not yet on the table. It has been proven though, if targeted, one vehicle could be remotely controlled by third parties… highly unlikely they’ll target me, I am poor, ugly and a bit fat.

I was speaking to my independent Land Rover garage this afternoon and they were saying all OTA updates have been suspended in case a problem is transferred to the car. 2023 Defender D300 HSE in Pangea Green
