Indy Service Price
Not going to say who they are, but the local Land Rover specialist near me has just quoted over £520 for a service. This covers the oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter. Does this feel like a lot ? I know everyones prices have gone up, but I can get the kit from Advanced Factors for £144 delivered. Thinking I may just get the local garage to do the labour side of it ? The Indy is well known and very good, but jeepers !

That is high.

For instance, CSK landrover, a great Indy and site sponsor, charge £145 for an oil and filter service and £305 for a full service, I.e all filters, engine oil change and flush, component checks and fluid top ups.

https://www.cskautomotive.co.uk/the-land-r...vice-work/

A good small garage will likely charge similar to CSK, but I would avoid the chains like kwik fit, Halfords etc.

Else think on doing it yourself, it’s very easy to change the oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter, top up swivels, grease props etc. Diff, gearbox and transfer box oil is easy as well.

I was suprised also. Seemed crazy money. I will get the local garage to do it, I know it isnt rocket science and would like to do them myself later on. They are charging £144 an hour labour including VAT. My local garage is £60 including VAT !

A good trusted small local garage should be well capable of doing the work. Our vehicles are pretty simple. If you ask them to grease the prop UJ’s while up on the ramps it would be beneficial as that part of a service is often overlooked.

I expect your indi is now servicing new defenders, discoveries and range rovers, hence their hourly charges are higher as owners of those vehicles are used to paying higher charges and tend to have money to spend.

Did them last night ! It was a pain in the arse to get to some of the nipples but I am good on this front ! Both props get greased every 6 months as a minimum. I will do the local garage this time for the oil service, it is being mapped next year by Engine 710 so will get them to do the B service while the maps and being re-written by Alive Tuning. Engine 710 are also significantly cheaper on the service front !

The gearbox oil change is quoted at circa 100k miles, however it’s prudent to change it more regularly and as it’s only 2.2 Litres on a 2.4 engined Puma its not expensive. I change mine every 30k miles so worth getting that done at same time. Certainly the transfer box and diff oils should be changed and the swivel grease measured and topped up if needed.

Thanks, mine is a 2.2 Puma and the owner before me changed the diff oils very frequently and also the gear box oil. I will try to keep up with the same sort of schedule as he did

Nowadays you suck the oil out. Just did my Disco 4. Hook up, pump, wait 15min (cup of tea) change filter (also from the top). Refill, check level on screen (using override - no dipstick!). Done. 10min work with 15min tea break

I prefer to drain from below as it gets all the oil out, plus any sludge, and as I have magnetic plugs I can see if there are any ferrous fillings etc to be concerned about.

I’m really not keen on sucking oil out as i see It’s as a massive retro step in engineering , along with no dipsticks on auto box’s and now engines !!!!!!

Engine 710 In South Queensferry charged me £187.50 + VAT for an "A" service in April this year.

Yeah I drain my other cars, but the Disco has this heavy skid plate to remove.

Sooo what do you think your Landrover dealer does when they change the oil? That oil sucking provision is not put there to benefit the owners. It is quick that's why the dealers could reduce the cost for us...

In fact that dip stick they removed was there to benefit the owner.

I change the Diff and Gearbox oils at every A service. This averages out the cost of my services and also means they are done every 2 years / 25k.
