Another stuck in gear.
What exactly is the mechanical issue when this happens and what is the fix? I’m told it can be rectified from the top without gearbox coming out and how do we prevent it from happening again?

The 110 has been sat idle for a few weeks getting Ashcroft & LOF parts fitted.
Pulled up to a stop in 3rd today and couldn’t remove gear stick. Stuck firmly in 3rd. I removed the rubber, carpet and slick shift to look but the cup isn’t accessible. Recovery is taking it to Engine 710 in Edinburgh.

In general the issue is getting stuck in 1st and it’s a Detent in the gearbox. Which is removable from above without gearbox removal.

Enter gear detent in the search box and lots will come up, inc stuck in 3rd .

Ps, the gear stick housing is held in by four bolts , they need removing to remove it from gearbox. one of the bolts is under the high / low / diff lock lever so it’s bolts need removing first.
When I work in that area I remove the cubby, carpet and centre floor panel to provide space and a good view. If bolts are not rusted it only takes 15 mins max.

PPS.what lof and Ashcroft parts were fitted ? Were they clutch parts ?

Stuck in gear
Hi IanH
You have provided excellent advice and I didn't realise this was such a common occurrence.
My Ashcroft parts weren't related to gearbox, they were CV joint, halfshaft and drive members along with LOF brake callipers. I have the Ashcroft drive shaft fitted in the gearbox also.

Being stuck in 3rd gear as I am, is it possible to access the detent spring from the top, seeing as it’s so close to the bellhousing?

Pm member ashtrans, I’m sure he will be able to advise on the issue and the fix.

Ps Dave is Ashcroft transmissions and site sponsor Very Happy

Ps, it could be a clutch spring breaking loose and getting jammed preventing a gear change. Have you tried rocking vehicle back and forward while trying to move into neutral.
