2024 Defender D250 - service intervals
What are the service intervals please?

So far I had prompt on the dash for an oil and filter change at 12k miles in Jan, now I have “inspection and service” on dash at 21k miles.

The 12,000 was probably where the oil dilution reached its point of needing a change. Assuming you have a diesel.. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

Yes it’s diesel, presumably it now needs a service.

When I bought it D250 XS I did ask for service intervals and was not told about oil dilution

lt has not been an issue on the 3.0 diesel. l've not heard of any complaints about oil dilution.

lt's interesting that yours has demanded an oil change at 12,000. Is it used for a lot of short journeys? l changed the oil on mine every 6,000 which may be excessive but it's cheaper than an engine.

I would definitely go for a service when the ECU ask for it...
Dealer insisted about it as well as going for some "long run" from time to time with the Diesel to make sure the EGR and DPF goes high enough in temp to avoid lots of multiple regen that could lead to oil dilution if not completed correctly.

Since the ECU is "taking" care of the oil, I wonder if we can find some other info about the service intervals such as accessory belts/water pump/Fuel filters etc... like they present in any other cars manual ?

Diesels will be very expensive in the future to maintenance.
Complete cleaning of dilution everywhere.
Maintenance done by yourself or Indy will be time consuming or costly
Whitout it, complete disaster, you need to replace the engine.

Diesels RIP No Mud flaps for my 90.!

My D250 is the easiest vehicle l have ever done an oil change on. The filter is at the top of the engine, at the front. The oil can be sucked out of the dipstick hole with a Mityvac.

Oil dilution with diesel engine always existed…we didn’t have sensors to tell us…
Getting worse with modern diesel of course but… in 20k miles I have changed oil 3 times and adblue left for another 10k miles.

Yes, the service intervals are a bit strange.

Example, I changed the oil after 1 year and around 12k miles. The computer had suggested a change at around 15k miles so I suppose I was a bit early.

12 days after the oil change (not a service) the computer states that the next oil change is due in 718 days or @ 20250 miles BUT a service is due in 354 or 8800 miles.

I'm assuming the oil would be changed in a service anyway - so I'm surprised that the service interval is now limited by the original miles requirement rather than just time, as the oil has already been changed..

Does that make sense?

Do you reset the interval with a G4 or similar or just let it run as if no change had taken place?

What about dealer servicing? Do you still keep it up for warranty/value retention purposes?

This is all online - google landrover service history and put in your VIN. You can then see what is involved in the 21k 42k 63k 84k and 105k services.

Interestly, an engine oil change isn't listed as part of any service, so perhaps they are meant to be carried out as and when necessary.

I would rather over service than under service but could understand why someone who only intends to keep the vehicle for 3 years is disappointed at having to change the oil 3 times rather than once.

I wonder how this works with the service plan?

The oil was changed at 6,000 and 12,000 by my local LR specialist. They didn't reset the service indicator so the vehicle still demanded an oil change/service at 17,000 and it was reset then. lt's now on 24,000 and has just had another oil change.
