So pay more and completely void my warranty? Sorry I don't think that's a good way forward.

You have a problem nobody is interested to solve. Here the solution. Get a tech working with JLR software. They will adapt the box to your needs and your box will be sorted once and for all. 3/400 pounds for a proper job and enjoy your defender for the rest of its life. It is such a fantastic piece of kit, don’t let them put you down for something solvable by someone with a little brain and 1 hour of coding.

Hi Discobean, we're having an identical issue with our new D350 in Australia - rolling back just as you and others have described - and are at the stage of the dealer telling us it's normal and they won't do anything.

Did you get anywhere with Landrover ?
I'm the same as you and don't want the car back until they can do something to stop it

No, nothing happened. Just got a letter from land rover saying it's normal. I dealt with Concord land rover who initially was really good and wanted to fix it after acknowledging the issue. Then they went cold and just gave me the car back. It's a really disappointing car. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Complete joke.

Hi all, as mentioned previously, having issues with car rolling back when in drive, rolling forward when in reverse and just a general delay in the car moving when pressing accelerator.
My car’s been with the dealer for over 2 weeks now, I started the rejection process and JLR said they had located the issue with my car but an update was due 1st August to resolve it so wouldn’t reject until the update had been carried out. Just heard back from the dealer that the update has been done, but no word as to whether it has actually fixed the issue. I asked if JLR had done checks to see if the issue they saw was now gone, but they just replied saying they are going to get their technician to take it on a test drive. This concerns me as everytime we’ve taken the car in and a technician has driven it, they’ve failed to replicate the issue. So I’m sure they’ll tell me the update has fixed it, hand me it back and then it’ll be down to me to see if it’s fixed it or not!! Ironic that the defender they’ve loaned me is also doing the exact same things as my car…!!!

After ours was in the dealership for this issue (again) for over 3 weeks we rejected the vehicle. A few weeks back. JLR were naughty, said it was 'characteristic', no mention of any fix so had to put in writing to reject. Then 48 hrs later by phone (not in writing) they said they'd be a fix in a few weeks. By this point faith was gone. We'd also had other issues like car not starting (showed an error code, module was reset but no real explanation why it happened), all audio failed, sat nav failed and needed map drive inserting, rust on subframe from new.... I could go on.

We had to pay depreciation at 45p per mile, even though we'd been waiting over a month for the the car to go in for official rejection process so obviously had to continue using it as it was only car. This and other costs incurred are currently with finance company under complaint, and ombudsman will step in if this doesn't resolve.

It's heartbreaking. Our first ever brand new car, and this was the dream. Just so disappointed. Could never recommend a defender now or any JLR vehicle.

I am in Perth too with a MY25 only 3 weeks old. Having this exact same issue and being fobbed off by JLR saying its normal operation. Has anyone had any luck with an update?

I have same issue in Brisbane with an MY25 D350 which has the roll back problem, which I think is quite dangerous actually as it can catch you out unless you always use Hold setting on the brake. I also have a MY23.5 D300 which does NOT have this problem. They must know what cuases this problem by now...surely there is an easy fix.

They know what the problem is, ive posted it. But i hadnt heard they have fixed it.

It is dangerous and sadly brake hold doesnt solve it Mike

Hi guys, so my car had the update last Friday, they test drove it at the dealership early this week and said it was fixed. I took this with a pinch of salt as they always say there’s no issue.
Got it back on Wednesday and the first time I drove it, it rolled forwards in reverse. Still delayed gear engagement too to the new update has definitely not fixed it.
I’ve since gone back to the dealership to pursue rejection. They’ve called me this morning saying JLR need to speak with some king of technical team to see if this is a normal characteristic.
Which to me is absolute Censored and completely contradictory as they’ve previously acknowledged this is a known fault and the update as supposed to fix it! I think they are trying their best to wriggle out of it as they know it was cost them big time if everyone experiences the fault wants to reject! Will update as and when I get more information

Did you manage to successfully reject? I am going down the same process but feel like they’re trying their best to get out of it.

I'm so sorry you're having this issue too Honey2021. We did manage the rejection, minus a depreciation charge of 45p per mile. If you have given them one opportunity to fix it (which you have) then you have a right to reject the vehicle. We were offered this fix back in mid july after the car had been there 3 weeks, but I had no trust that the fix would come out on time, nor that it would work as they've been so devious. Seems we were right.

This is a known issue, as you can well demonstrate. As Flinders advised me, if you bought the car on finance Black horse have provided huge support. JLR are still insisting on charing 45p per mile from when the car last went in (even though we had to wait weeks to get it in after it had already been in the dealer for this issue about 500miles sooner). The car also had 13 miles on from new. This is still under dispute.

Also our car is now up for sale - so if anyone buys a blue defender reg PJ25OBS please check if this issue has been fixed, as we rejected this car due to this fault.
