Focal Impulse 4.320 Compact Amp Wiring Guidance
Hello- I purchased this Focal Impulse amp and the focal ES100 KE speakers and before I tear the dash apart, I was curious if you have some advice for the install. I will be using the wire diagram for the speakers/tweeters below but wondering about where to mount the amp etc. I did purchase the optional plug and play harness but again since this is my daily driver I want to be prepared before I pull the dash apart. Thank you!

Didn’t see this when I replied to the other post !!!

The plug & play harness will make it really easy. Not sure what vehicle you have but a Puma has loads of space behind the head unit to mount the compact amp.

If the head unit has RCA outputs, use them as they’ll send a steady balanced signal to the amp. Otherwise you’ll use the speaker wire outputs from the head unit to the amp - these are called high-level outputs. When you’ve done this, then wire from the amp in the same way you would as if you were wiring from the head unit.

Again, depending on what vehicle, I think you will be a little disappointed with the overall sound. You’ll have quite a boosted mid range and top end (which should sound really good), but will lack a little bass. Compact or under seat sub is the next purchase Smile

Ps always best to wire the amp direct from the battery, fused appropriately.

Pps

The amp is a 4 channel. If you use the crossovers included with the speakers (passive) you’ll only need to run it in 2 channel mode.

To get the best out of the amp, you’d use an active crossover and each speaker in your set up would each run from a channel, utilising all 4 channels. Some modern head units have built in crossovers and allow this, otherwise you’ll need another box (active crossover) to manage each speaker/channel.

I’d do the install in steps.

Try the speakers first and see how they sound with Land Rover wires. No need to remove the head unit and minimal cabling.

You can then run this just as a 2 channel amp as above using the passive crossovers supplied or as 4 channels, using the other 2 channels (in bridged mode) to run a small/slim under seat sub.
