Getrag 420g gearbox and lt230 transfercase
Hi, ive looked everywhere and not seen anyone whose done this. Im thinking of putting a m62b44tu into my defender and i have a getrag 420g 6spd gearbox and wondering how hard would it be to adapt to the transfercase has anyone done anything similar to the lt230 to different gearboxes?

Is there a 420 on any other car with a transfer case? I know the bell housing for the 6cyl is different to the 8 cyl but the x5 can have a manual gearbox but don’t know if that’s the 420, but then you would need to change the bell housing if that’s possible Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

It only came in the e39 m5, 540i and e46 m3 all were rwd,
Other option would be convertinv it to rwd?

Found that the early x5s came with a transfercase lwx500 that supplsedly fits the getrag 420g, if this is the case would i just need custom props to go from the transfercase to axles

I would guess an auto box then.

But I know the drift guys use a manual gearbox on the m62 that’s not standard, maybe that’s an option. Fits with a plate between engine and gearbox but allows the 6 speed manual from a diesel and maybe that one was on a x5 or other 4x4 Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
