Totally normal and due to the design of the CDL dog clutch. Not anything to worry about.

Anyone know why my LT230 on my new to me MY13 @ 54k miles has no serial numbers. It also has black RTV instead of gaskets. When replacing the mt82 output shaft with a LOF I got the impression someone had been there before me even at such low mileage. |

Gaskets haven't been used in LT230s for years, the factory spec is Hylosil RTV.
A low mileage doesn't mean that the transfer box hasn't needed attention (it is a Defender)! Lack of a serial number is a little odd but as I recall it would have been an applique label rather than a stamped number and could have simply fallen off. |
