Pivi Pro - unable to add inControl account to car
I've been helping my friend Chris who has a 2021 Defender P400 owned from new. It's a lovely car and I would have wanted one too but after my Disco 5 I've gone back to a Disco 4 as I need a bit of space in the boot for 3 golden retrievers.

Chris mentioned that in the first year of ownership when getting into the car, the car would greet him with "Good morning Chris" but the car stopped recognising Chris.

Chris was using his mobile phone hotspot to connect the car to the internet, we parked the car outside mine to get a decent internet connection via WIFI.

in Pivi, there was no account. We tried to set this up by entering Chris' inControl details and click on sign-in, Pivi comes up with "Internet connection required". I can see on the router it is connected and has access to the internet so I do not understand why it cannot use WIFI. Using the inControl phone app, Chris can log in and the car is linked to his account.

Of the 3 subscriptions, the "online pack" is inactive and the other 2 are active. I'm guessing this is to use internet and may need a SIM card in the centre console.

The phone app shows the correct odometer reading and distance left on the tank of fuel is updated as well, so there is communication from inControl to the car or vice versa but this probably uses the car's embedded SIM.

Whatever we do, we can't get passed signing in from the car to the inControl account where it always complains that it needs internet access. We added a data SIM card and changed the connectivity settings to use 'data'. No change, the car now says it has internet access via WIFI as well as via the SIM card we added.

We're rebooted a number of times via the off button and holding that for 30 seconds, nothing appears to help.

My first question is what is the advantage of logging in from the car to the inControl account? And secondly, would anyone know why the car is asking for an internet connection when trying to log in to inControl while it has 2 active internet connections to choose from?

Pivi version is 4.3, installed 18 May 2025.

Thanks
Ron
