Hello folks,
The time has come to part company with our Sankey-based camping trailer. Built around 11 years ago by a chap over on Disco3.co.uk, we bought it from its second owner in 2021. Since then, whilst I’ve spent a huge amount of time refurbishing and updating it, we just haven’t had the opportunity to make use of it in the way that we originally hoped. The trailer is based on an extended chassis MkII Sankey, which has disc brakes and the hitch in line with the chassis. The latter is important as it makes for much more level towing behind civilian Defenders and Discoverys. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge The body is constructed of plywood composite boards and aluminium extrusions. It’s very strong. It includes the following features: • Electrics locker housing twin 100amp batteries, 1kw inverter, control panel and a range of switches and sockets for various functions. There’s also space for all of the paraphernalia for setting up camp including pegs, cables, levelling ramps, etc. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge • Wardrobe locker, which opens up into tent annex. This has been kitted out with lightweight, easily removable shelves as in the void below is a water filter and space heater, piped to feed the roof tent. ![]() Click image to enlarge • Gas locker with space for a 15kg propane bottle and instantaneous gas water heater (brand new!). ![]() Click image to enlarge • Storage locker for chairs, poles, tents and all of the other stuff necessary for a comfortable camp. • Kitchen locker with sink, gas hob, microwave, various storage and a slave control panel. ![]() Click image to enlarge • Fridge locker with 80l Waeco fridge, upgraded with billet aluminium catches and hinges. ![]() Click image to enlarge Externally, it boasts the following: • An almost new 1.4m Tuff-Trek TT-02 Ruggedised roof tent complete with annex and breathable mattress pad. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge • A Foxwing 270 awning mounted on hinged brackets that allow it to lie flat on the roof when travelling. The awning is old but serviceable and comes with a complete set of almost new side panels. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge • 800w solar panel on hinged brackets. • Two waffle boards on quick-release brackets. ![]() Click image to enlarge • Two 20l jerry cans in lockable carriers. • Roof access ladder. • Mains connection. • 12 pin towing electrics and 50amp Anderson connector for battery charging. There are a host of other details, too numerous to mention. More information can be found in the following thread, where I documented its’ upgrade and refurbishment: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic80354.html The trailer currently rides on 19 inch Discovery 4 wheels, which are fitted via Rakeway adapters. It will, of course, also accept standard steel Land Rover wheels, or alloys with 30mm hub spacers. All of this can be yours for £9000, for collection only from Deepcut, Surrey. Thanks for looking.
