Long Term ORE Spare Wheel Carrier Feedback
Good morning-

I wanted to share a long-term review of the ORE spare wheel carrier in case anyone else on here is looking to make the purchase/investment.

Purchased in April, 2019. For reference, the link below is to the item I am discussing:

https://ore4x4.co.uk/shop/land-rover-defen...A88kDmTbv2

I was an early adopter of the wheel carrier and safe to say it was "generation 1" (though I am not sure anything has changed since my purchase). Chris said it was one of the first carriers to be shipped outside of the UK.

I was excited for the carrier based on the anti-corrosion treatment. I live on the Atlantic ocean. The 110 is parked about 25 years from the sea outside in harsh northeast Canadian winters with no garage. Due to health issues, the defender sat outside in the same spot for nearly 4 years. It was uncovered, as I couldn't get to Canada to purchase and install a cover of any sort.

Last week when I finally was granted permission to travel by my doctors, I went to collect the Defender. The ORE carrier looks like it was installed yesterday. No rust or flaking of the coating can be seen. The stainless steel connecting and hardware to the door and to the rear corssmember mounting points are all in the same condition as they were the day I installed them.

Ive shared this with Chris at ORE too but I wanted to share with this community. They have done something right and surely you are getting what you pay for with this quality kit. Things do not last long in this salty air/sea spray/massive snowstorm environment and I couldn't be more impressed with how the carrier has held up.

The only thing I did was slowly push out the old grease with new grease that was in the swing away hinge, and that was it.

Happy to answer questions but just felt like giving a long term review in such Censored environment would be useful to our community.

Cheers!

Thanks - this is very useful to read. I’ve been considering one for a while but they are a significant investment over other wheel carriers and my experience of the longevity of powder coat is poor, so very interesting to hear how their special ‘OREsome’ powder coat has been holding up in a harsher environment. They have mentioned a galvanised option a few times on their social media but nothing available on their website or when I have emailed them to enquire about a galvanised option, I’ve had no response. Your review makes me think I’d be ok with just the regular powder coated option after all…

I think I probably put it through more testing by accident than ORE did in the lab making the coating they use. A lot of other stuff on the truck weathered poorly but not even a mention of it on the ORE stuff. I have no affiliation with them by the way just think even if it helps one other enthusiast my mission is accomplished. we all work hard for our money!

I have to agree, I’ve had mine for 5 years and it still looks and works as good as new; really straightforward to fit as well.
