Future values
What do people think will happen to the new Defender in regards to values, as time goes on.

Do you think they will drop to a point, maybe £15-20,000 like a Puma Defender and not go much lower (unless in poor condition)
Or do you think you'll eventually be able to get one for £5,000.

My 2022 90 Commercial is still worth £41,000 (local dealer cash offer) but it's early days yet and it's only done 20,000 miles

except in a few exceptions, I would expect that like most modern mass produced cars they will simply fall away, much as the modern'ish RR and Disco have........

I think that most modern era cars will depreciate down to 4 figures given time, just look at the prices of L405 Range Rovers where you can pick one up for circa £10K now.

I think that the old shape Defender is an anomaly. No way should they command the prices that they do but nostalgia keeps the prices high..

How much is a good low mileage Discovery 3 now? Values aren't helped by the engine issues, "like a grenade with the pin pulled" says my local specialist

I don’t think it’s all nostalgia that sets the price for the classic defender, it’s also because there is nothing like it in the market other than the Grenadier, and currently the price of those are way to high to compete in the Classic Defender market. If the Grenadier stays in production, and that’s not guaranteed, then once the second hand ones get to the right price points classic defender prices will start to be impacted by them.

The Grenadier is a great vehicle, particularly if you are used to driving old Defenders.
l've driven one, although not really off road. You can currently get one for just over £40,000 which is at the top end of Classic Defender prices, so it's not far off being a contender now.

A lot of the complaints about the Grenadier wouldn't bother previous owners of old model Defenders. Such as squeaks, rattles, water leaks, and other issues. As with the old Defender they can usually be sorted by the owner.

Wow..I almost bought a grenadier. I'm glad I didn't. Prices have absolutely fallen off a cliff.

New they are now over £80K for a base spec. Now at 40K for less than 10K miles from a main dealer. There are some pretty close to the £40k mark with not much more than delivery miles. Ooof

The average price for a 10 year old Discovery 4 seems to be around £20-£25k so about half price after 10 years. Seems reasonable to think this would be the same for the new defender.

Strangely - used prices for the defender I have seem to be appreciating - there is nothing for sale that is less than I paid new!

^ Late model Discovery 4 (2015/16) prices are artificially high because they're more desirable to many buyers than a Discovery 5. D5's start around £15k.

If you look at D4 models from 2010 to 2012 there are examples for sale in the £9000 to £10,000 range or less.
This is probably a more true value for the age of the car.
