It's not the o-ring. It's that end of the intermediate shaft is not positively supported. It just rests in a soft, aluminium bore. The steel shaft slowly frets away and hollows out the case. The steel repair sleeve is an interference fit so it doesn't fret away at the aluminium case.

A case with the steel sleve and a heavy duty intermediate shaft..only time will tell, but it looks the dogs stots..ππ€£
