The most rattle prone car!
Hi all, I'm after a little advice from the group - this is my second Defender (first was rejected successfully due to electrical charging faults). This Defender is most rattle prone care I've ever owned, amongst other issues:

- Sunroof rattle audible in any situation when it is dry and/or cold - does not happen when it's wet, suggesting it is a rubber seal or sunroof integrity issue - been into the workshop three times, and they still can't fix it....do I request a new sunroof?
- Driver's side rattle from pillar/door trim most of the time - they don't seem to do much about it in the workshop other than add tape and felt into the trim areas!
- Rattle from the boot - no idea exactly where from but pretty loud
- excessive wind noise from the top of the driver's side window - been into the workshop twice for seal replacements - most recent one left sealant smeared all over the door sills and the actual seal completely loose and not fixed to the door!

- Driver's airbag light on and off for a couple of months - LR assist came out and updated the software but think the clock spring should be replaced. Went into the workshop where they refaced the pins and added some oil or something to the connection pins!

Do I keep on at LR to get these issues fixed or is this another case for rejection - would this even fly given they are mostly rattles - although for an £84k car, it shouldn't be this way?!

Heavens you've had bad luck. No rattles whatsoever on mine.

l would try taking it to another dealer.

I know lightning - I went on the off-road half day and was surprised how quiet the Defender was that I was assigned, even when putting it through its paces, compared to mine! I think I'll give the dealership one more chance and then escalate it to LR centrally - I do love the car but just can't believe that this is the quality you get for this much money and am torn whether I just reject it again.

I've had no end of issues with noises from my 90 HT, I've had the seals replaced, the trim on the roof that the roof rack bolt to has been replaced, the side panel behind the drivers door has been replaced and a new bulkhead but it's still not as good as I think it should be.

I'm about to start taking the plastic panels out of the back and pack them with foam to see if that resolves the issues.

Have you tried dealing with the service manager and not the service staff? We've found that things happen much faster at out local dealer if we go directly to him and take him out for a drive, my wife's Evoque has had multiple annoying squeaks and rattles and he's always spent time on drives with us to identify them. Unfortunately once one gets sorted she notices another one.

We've currently got a courtesy Disco Sport and that doesn't make any annoying noises so they can do it, just not all the time.

One thing that is prone to rattles on the HT is the plastic panels on the inside of the rear windows. A bit of foam padding solved it on mine.

I had issues with the airbag light, would come on occasionally, then it stayed on. Turned out it wasn’t plugged in properly at the factory and eventually worked its way out.

Regarding rattles I have a few on my 24MY 90, the boot it’s from the trim on the side and also the plastic trim on the back door. My 23.5MY wasn’t anywhere near as bad. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue
