If it was an old boy I bet it was proper 9/16 spanner’s.
Ps. That’s why I have one piece shafts now. Eliminates that particular issue. |

There is always Ashcroft HD 2 piece as well, that’s what I have.
You’ll get good miles from these. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___ ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

I don’t think single piece shafts are available for the Salisbury axle...but you could weld/ or get someone to weld a 2 piece into a one piece shaft.

No need to remove the propshaft in that case, just locking the centre diff would have been sufficient. |

Heya,
After a bit of advice if i may ![]() Finally started this today (big mistake kept telling myself it'll get cooler, nah 32c today!) Anyway, reversed the landy to the end of my drive (had to let the tyres down to squeeze under the carport drained the diff and then took the old shaft out, all easy as pie. I came to reassemble and the new shaft went wheeee all the way in to a stop about 5mm inside the flange (so no way to put the circlip on) I compared it to the old shaft, identical lengths(although different seal runners if thats the name and the circlip recess is slightly further down?) but just wanted to check this was how it should be? Forgot to add, 1997 110 salisbury rear with discs - VA12**** The new and old ones are 640mm roughly, FTC1724+FTC1725 which LRWORKSHOP suggests should be correct ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge thanks James |

Should be alright. If you look at the old shaft you will likely see that not the full length of splines has been engaged on them either.
In addition to the the length check of the shafts you can also check that the new DMs are not significantly deeper than the old ones. Your story reminds me of when I lost drive on a previous 110 on which I had replaced the rear shafts. Then it was the splines on the hub side that were too long and allowed the shaft to move out of the differential and loose contact with the gears inside. |
