Negative Camber on Front Near Side Wheel
Help Please

I have Negative Camber on the Front Near Side Wheel, however, it's not effecting the drive/handling of the vehicle.

I've recently done a lot of work to my vehicle, and did not notice the negative camber prior to this, that does not mean, that it was not present though.

Work Done - New Suspension all round, standard height. Front Wheel Bearings done on both sides. On the Near Side, New Swivel (Ball and Housing) King Pins, Bearings etc, new stub axle, hub, brake disc, drive flange.

I also have Mantec 30mm wheel spacers fitted.

Axle Casing does not look like it's bent, but I can't think of anything else that would cause the negative camber.

Notwithstanding the description of the work you’ve had done, it does sound like your swivel pins.

Have they been shimmed correctly?

Yes, shimmed correctly, however, I'm going to strip it all down on Thursday and rebuild again to check everything. I also used the swivel rebuild kit from LR Parts, the swivel seal is not great, so have purchased a genuine part, I know this is not causing the camber problem, but I do have a very small leak on the bottom of the swivel.

Ok best of luck.

It is possible to replace the seal without disassembling the swivel (a careful cut to the seal at 12 o’clock and similar (but offset) to the retaining plate, but my preference is to dissemble and inspect if a leak appears.

I can’t think of anything other than the swivel pins creating the issue if you have no drivetrain issues.

It could also be a bend axle, I had this on my car, don't know how, but did a bunch of measurements and sure enough tube was bend. I had a great axle lying around which I overhauled and swapped out. You can straighten the tube with heat after stripping it down.

Obviously the friction weld axle best avoided.

Have you double checked your wheel spacer to see if it’s correctly seated and the wheel is correctly seating on it I.e very clean rust free surface ? . Can you swap over the wheel spacer from the other side to see if it puts the camber on the other wheel to check if the spacer is ok and not at fault.

Absolutely! Sorry for the confusion. The friction welded you want, the tig welded one to avoid. Both axles I had were friction welded.

Can't be any part that rotates, or that would cause wheel wobble and the vehicle would be unable to drive smoothly.

What year and model defender?

I would be checking these bits that were changed

"New Swivel (Ball and Housing),"

did you have just one or both sides done?

who was the manufacturer of the parts?

is it the correct year parts that were used? DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

My Defender is a TD5 90 Hardtop 2005.

Parts where from LR Parts, swivel and swivel housing are Britpart and ordered the correct parts for my year of Defender. Only did the one side, other swivel is not leaking

I'm going to fit the original parts back on, and compare the results, and send the pictures to LR Parts and see what they say. Might be I never noticed the Negative Camber before, and if the original parts still give negative camber, then I have a slightly bent axle casing.

That is what my TD5 looks like, but on the NS Wheel instead of the OS Wheel as in your picture
