Hi
What oil did you use when you changed the gearbox oil? Jim |

Edit. Castrol trans max 75w90. I can’t remember tbh, I think the manual states two types and went for the thicker of the two

I would be surprised if it was the gearbox at such low miles.. are you sure it’s not an adapter shaft or clutch issue ?
Giving Ashcroft transmissions a call to get their thoughts would be beneficial ,or message member Ashtrans on here https://www.defender2.net/forum/member-ashtrans.html An interesting topic on the MT82 https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic65856.html?highlight=mt82 Ps did this happen before oil change or after it ? Did you fill with a measured 2.2 litres ? PPS Transmax Multivehicle 75w-90 is the correct oil as it's is a fully synthetic manual transmission fluid meeting API GL-4 specification |

Might pay to have a look at the gearstick lower assembly, the rubber there can disintegrate and get in the way, or the nylon ball if original can crack..
You then can get quite a weird feel gear changes, which is caused by the stick selection not the gearbox itself. Worth checking there is no gearbox oil leak, if it’s wet near the drain or anywhere else, but I doubt that’s the case. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___ ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

mine was poor 1-2 change when new, not sure what fixed it but its brilliant now.
New Clutch New Adaptor Shaft (Ashcroft) Extra locators on gear change There is a big long thread on here somewhere about the 1-2 change being a bit rubbish DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Just a thought but you said that you had carried out a full fluids service?
There was no chance that you put Castrol Transmax Axle Long Life 75W-90 that is used for the diffs and transfer box in the gearbox by mistake? Not sure that it would make that much difference, just a random thought. Jim |

I have something similar for 1-2 km from cold, then it’s perfect. I can’t imagine the oil get warm that fast so I speculate if some areas of the gearbox take longer to be lubricated. If I remember correctly lubrication is by splash, so a bit random.
I too changed oil appr 10000 kms ago and at the same time the drive members in the rear. That made an improvement in overall gear shift quality. Clutch is 20000 km old so should still be fine. I am not too concerned and think it can be further improved by elimination of slack in the drive train. |

Was the precise oil quantity used?
The product IanH mentioned before is what I have in mine. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___ ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

There’s definitely something wrong if there’s NOT an oil leak 😮 |

Gears 1 - 2 do tend to be a bit more that way inclined, especially when cold.
What does the clutch fluid look like? It should be changed every 2 yrs presumably similar to brake fluid. It’s the same thing, but my point is, it might have gone a bit hydroscopic and took on some water content, from that, it could affect the hydraulic action of the slave with the clutch itself. Often it can be accidentally overlooked, it often turns off relatively quickly normally, but if it’s really black then that’s not good. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___ ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |
