I have it on all my LRs, except for my wife’s car and I sort of miss it when I drive hers.

I like it. It displays current speed together with the detected speed limit, among other things, so in that respect reduces the amount of time you are looking at instruments rather than the road ahead. Having said that the displayed limit isn't always correct so you need to keep checking the posted speed limit.
I'm still discovering what else it displays in different driving modes, eg current gear, revs, gap to vehicle ahead when in ACC so there's probably more I haven't explored yet. How much you value it is pretty subjective I think. 23.5MY 90 V8 Carpathian grey |

The HUD is decent but overpriced. Replacing the glass alone can cost around £1,700. While the display is sharp and clearly visible at night, it’s not as refined as one might expect—feeling more like a gadget than a truly practical tool.
In bright sunlight, the heated windshield elements become visible, and reflections from the surroundings can be quite distracting. One major drawback is that the HUD becomes nearly invisible when wearing sunglasses, requiring manual brightness adjustment. This becomes especially uncomfortable when entering a tunnel—removing your sunglasses results in an abrupt glare from the display. It would also be helpful to have an option to turn off the dashboard display entirely at night. Bottom line: save your money. |

I first had one on a BMW about 10 years ago, and remember asking the salesman if it could be turned off as I wasn't a fan of the idea of having info in my line of sight. Fast forward to now & it's one of my mandatory options on a vehicle - not having to glance down at the dash to check speed is a great quality of life improvement & as a taller person it allows me to have the wheel lower down at a more comfortable position & not worry about the top of the wheel blocking my view of the dash.

I understand the HUD appeal in cars with a lower seating position—like a Ferrari or a Lotus Elise, just to name a couple where looking at the speedo requires more than a blink of an eye.
In contrast, the speedometer in the Defender is positioned halfway up the windscreen. It only takes a tiny shift—less than a degree of eye movement—to check your speed, so it’s really not an issue. |

I find the HUD great to use. I have had it on my last couple of BMWs too. Hardly have to look at my dash now.
I know the BMW stated not to wear Polarized glasses when driving, |
