![]() Click image to enlarge When i was having cooling issues with my V8 the twin SPA came in so handy, fitted a high capacity radiator from G M radiator in Glasgow 0141-550-5800 used the standard OAT mix, i think it was 30% with a bottle of water wetter, so far so good. |

Fitted same as mine, no bracket on mine either. I am leaving mine as is. As an aside you dont need the fuel temp sender. I found filters kept leaking using the bmw filter and housing as you have. Swapped it out for an inline one in the end cheaper too. Mine 232bhp used to sit around 90 to 100 head temp on a road driving less than 2k rpm. Increase rpm and temp drops. Motorway would see higher temps at 60mph than 70mph unless you locked gbox down a gear at 60 then temp would go down, fuel consumption up. Since modifying stat, which is prob a bit too modified she sits 75 to 85. I try to keep her under 90, they don't need to run so hot without the dpf stuff fitted. Prior to ewp she would go up to 115 on a steep climb towing now sits around 85/90 which I am far happier with. I went for basic ewp controller where you just set the temp for.it to come on at. Feed from top hose. This seems to work well for me and myset. My 184 just has an aux 40lpm 12v pump in heater pipeline to aid water flow, its out this weekend so will see how that fairs. Both mine on alisport rads. Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Marcus at MWmachines fitted the filter housing and sender when he did the conversion, to be fair it hasn’t shown any sign of leaking yet but it’s good to know the sender isn’t needed and if it all plays up there’s a good alternative, have you got a link or name for the filter you used?
I’d be interested to see how your 184 gets on with the aux pump, my thinking was that the l322 and BMWs fitted with the m57 had aux pumps for the heater and that they may have done more to help the coolant flow than I first thought. |

Its out tomorrow so will see how aux pump.goes.
Yes my thinking was same ref aux pump and l322s. Freelander 2 filter. Or just search bmw inline filter fuel. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/296483716655?mk...media=COPY I would use that one but gives you idea and mpn. Mine arrived yesterday, and was having a ganda's at how to fit and plumb in..
Its somewhat frustrating the pump could easily have a bracket to mount it, but they'd rather charge circa £40 for an additional bracket that twists on.. ![]() Any tips for ensuring that the EWP is free of air etc.. , or simply just fill system as per normal with engine off and bleed screw open? - I think thats standard bleed procedure for M57 from memory. |

Could part of the problem be that you aren't exhausting the hot air from the radiator quickly enough?

Possible although u don't think so in my case as eluded to earlier in threads. Mine cools plenty quick enough if coolant is circulating quickly. At 1400rpm without an ewp it get hot. 2000rpm no ewp it works and cools fine. 1400rpm and ewp it works fine. Different sized water pump pulley would achieve same thing Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Thought I would update my original post. Having changed to a VDO gauge and found minimum improvement with changing the thermostat, I reverted back to the viscous fan set up instead of the electric version again very little improvement. So just I then got hold of one of the modified thermostats sold by MW Machines. Big improvement on the temps mostly now will sit just below 90 which I’m much happier with. I still need to get the appropriate lead and software ( any suggestions of where to get them would be appreciated).
Will continue to see how it goes, not sure to stick with the viscous fan so will leave that decision for another day. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0 1972 VW Beetle 1200 2002 Dax Rush 3.9 V8 2012 Audi A3 tdi 2020 Renault Kangoo electric |

I wasn't even aware that there was a lower temp version of the stat available..
![]() Looks a good shout though! Plenty of stuff now coming out for these conversions which is excellent all round |

So i've put mine in, pretty much exactly in the same scenario / arrangement as this. I'm not convinced however, that I haven't got a big ol airlock somewhere. Done a few short journeys, the EWP temp says 90ish, the dash says 90ish, and the ODB says 90ish which all suggest everything is OK. I can feel water moving from the pump through the pipes so it suggests its working fine. However, the rad is hot, but the bottom outlet is lukewarm at best. For the stat to move it should surely be circa 80/90.. I haven't drilled holes in the stat as suggested tbh, but would be interested to know what you guys have done. Filled the system cold, opened bleed valve on M57 and closed when water came out, previously thats how I always bled the system pre-EWP. |
