2016 Defender 130 Puma 2.2 HCPU Santorini Black
22 sold in April UK wide. Our local dealer Endevour in Gerrards Cross now has the single showroom car and single demo. They have filled the forecourt with a mix of used vehicles and look to be a used car set up not much of an Ineos dealer. I suppose you can’t keep the lights on if they don’t sell any. 1951 80" S1 2.0

You would be wary about buying any brand of car without a dealer back up.
If you could get a local garage to supply you with one then for them to supply the warranty/service back up you would br O.K. Maybe that will be the way INEOS will go but they would not have specialist knowledge if needed. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

INEOS has apparently made a point of withdrawing dealerships from dealers who were not committed to selling the brand.

Heritage VW, who were at one time the Dorset dealer, I am told had the whip removed because they didn't actively try to sell them, although they would put minimal effort into allowing someone who came in wanting to buy one to do so. There was, allegedly, no effort put into the selling by the dealer.

My nearest dealer is now Compass Automotive in Bridgewater where the staffed were was extremely knowledgeable, proactive, helpful, supportive, and professional - in short everything I'd expect of a seller of specialist vehicles (and in fact everything that the local Land-Rover dealer used to be about 30 years ago before LR went "yuppy").

I think the INEOS policy now is that it is better for the brand to have a small number of good dealers rather than a larger number of lack-lustre and disinterested dealers.

I think this is more the move from agency to wholesale model. Portsmouth dealer told me this and that they had withdrawn from Ineos. I cant remember the figure but Ineos wanted them to "buy" 40 cars a quarter when they are lucky to sell that number a year with no stock outlay.

It is a very understandable move. Why wouldn't Ineos want to change a situation which had resulted in a number of largely disinterested dealers holding a significant stock of Ineos-owned vehicles whilst making little or no effort to sell them? An arrangement where the dealer owns the stock not only incentivises the dealer to sell the things but also will tend to dissociate the dealers who went to Ineos simply to have a novel vehicle alongside the core business with no particular intention of proactively marketing them.

To me there is nothing sinister in this at all, it seems a sensible business model change.

Hope it works out for INEOS as it seems to be a fine vehicle. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Agree. A few manufacturer's run that model and typically when the car sells itself. The problem with niche vehicles is that it doesn't stack up if its a low volume seller. No dealer would what to sit on a few million pounds of stock with a very small market.

YTD sales so far are down 20% which will not be helped by first year VED increase. 77 vehicles for the UK market so far is low (noting that some will be most likely be pre registered to avoid the VED increase)

I agree pjm-84.

A niche vehicle with limited appeal and not helped by the commercials problems for business users. It’s always going to be a difficult vehicle to shift.

In my ignorance, which other manufacturers have this wholesale model?

I think most do. Volvo and Mercedes are agency and Landrover tried to go the agency route with their popular models. Porsche are agency, hence dont ask for discount.

VW tried to roll it out with the ID range (EVs) to try and control prices and stop the price war..... didn't work and they went back to the Wholesale model.
