![]() Click image to enlarge Hi all, posting this from work so don't have the car with me for a picture but luckily masai has the same example. I am trying to install a nakatenaga antenna for dab+ as my favo station is no longer on fm. But I cannot figure out how you are supposed to loosen that weird round nut thing with 2 indents? I can get it to turn a bit with a lot of hassle but it's near impossible to get a decent grip on it. I am completely destroying it if I try to use vice grips or something on this. How are you supposed to do this? Also, does anyone know if this is a right or left turn to loosen it up? |

You need to get to the underside of the fitting to prevent the nut rotating..
Just make up a tool to do the top ring.. I think from memory the cable has to be removed from the back of the radio.. it's one piece from aerial to jack plug.. Normal thread.š |

Normal anti clockwise thread, I loosened and replaced mine using a punch (more likely a small screwdriver) and a rubber mallet to loosen it off, then it just unwound by hand. There might be the option of using an appropriately sized open ended spanner vertically to get it loose,
The section under the wing is just a rubber seal at the top of a cone shape that fits against the wing. Once you get it moving it will be straightforward, there's not a nut on the other side that you would need to hold to stop the whole thing spinning. The stick underneath does turn when I turn the nut on top and itās winding the cable⦠do you need to unplug and pull the cable firstā¦?

I do remember having to stop the thing rotating..it may not be a nut but the body has to be held in think.. and as I said above the cable is one piece from aeriel fitting to back of radio..so if its to be removed it needs disconnecting at the back of the radio.. but I remember getting enough slack to get it pushed through the hole and out of my way....

Even with vice grips clamped and stopping rotation of the rod underneath⦠I have turned the nut probably a 100 times and nothing changes⦠I do have resistance, by hand I cannot spin it

![]() Click image to enlarge I think I just held the black plastic stick part and removed the nut. I was getting it out of the way for a new air intake hose. There was also a clip bracket from the bulkhead or wing that holds the bottom part of the aerial Craig. āDon't believe everything you read on the internet.ā ā Abraham Lincoln www.scotgrc.co.uk |

That's why I had mine moved..I was fitting an intake hose and remember it was all a bit tight for space with the abs unit there as well..a job i ment or intend to go back to one day and possibly blank that wing hole and re fit an aerial elsewhere..

The nut is very different on mine, see the picture ![]() Click image to enlarge Also that clip bracket broke off within 2 secs of my attempting to turn the nut. I vice gripped the plastic bit so that's not moving anymore but I can keep turning the nut for infinity it seems.. nothing happens. Seems like I am missing something or a bit has broken off and it's not working.. strange |

![]() Click image to enlarge If the underside spins, wrap it in electrical pvc tape, and use some pilers on that too. It shouldnāt be that tight, the silver collar in the pic above shouldnāt be any issue to remove. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___ ___\āļøLone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/š¬š§šŗšø\____ _//*ā½ļøš¢ļøāļøš§°*\\_ |

That's what I'm trying. The rod underneath is vice gripped and not moving.
I have pliers on the small top chrome rounded nut and that's moving counter clock wise. The large chrome disc isn't moving at all. And I can keep turning the nut but neither onder the wing or on top of.. anything is moving vertically. Nothing seems to change. Note: this is a LHD, does it matter for something perhaps? |

Is it possible that youāve actually loosened the retaining ring (smaller diameter ring with two indents) but the mast bracket is preventing the ariel from separating from the ring?
I used to have a decent photo of what is underneath from when I replaced my ABS but I canāt lay my hands on it. I hope you sort it š |

I also have the feeling something is stuck.. I am tempted to simply put a small metal screwdriver under it and try to pry it up

Might be worth a go.
Just been trying to find photos. Not much luck. Can only find this one which isnāt much use. It appears that the mast is only clipped into the bracket (itās open ended rather than a closed p clip). Which means it should move/lower when you undo the ring. ![]() Click image to enlarge This may be a bit ābodgit & scarperā but have you tried lowering the mast, and gently tapping it down with a hide mallet or similar? It sounds like youāve undone the retaining ring and maybe it is simply āstuck.ā |
