Fuel line repair at the sender unit Defender300tdi 110 1997
Fuel line repair at the sender unit? - Defender 300tdi 110 1997

I have changed the filler hose but noticed there is also some slight weeping when filling tank on what I think is the sender unit? Can anybody help with the best way to fix this? Do I have to emptyt the tank to repair? I am just not sure what part I would have to get ie thickness of a new fuel hose part to join the sender and metal pipe or even if this is possible. I have attached a couple of pics to show pipe and area. Hoping to take my Defender on a mini excursion so trying to address few possible issues. Many thanks for any replies.

It looks like it could be either the pipe itself or the seal between the fuel sender and tank, both quite common points to leak. I would suggest giving the area a good clean so you can see a bit more clearly where the leak is from.

You wont need to drop the tank but you will need to let the level in the tank drop below the fuel sender level. To remove the sender you tap the tabs to turn it anti-clockwise, there is a special tool for this as the tabs are often damaged if using a screw driver but it is expensive so many carefully tap the tabs round. I have attached a diagram which shows the part numbers, assuming you don't have a sedimentor.

If you fancy making your own tool, Mike from Britannica Restorations provides a free template to download here: https://britrest.com/product/fuel-tank-sen...-download/
