Which Chassis
I'm tempted to purchase an early S2 for a project to keep me occupied for 12-18 months. It needs a new chassis but who are the go to people nowadays for a galvanised chassis?

Good idea - looking forward to hearing more….

If you haven’t already done so, I’d suggest you join the Series 2 Club for the info, support and discounts Thumbs Up

Many favour Richards Chassis and the Club discount is 5%.

Thumbs Up

For a Series One, II, IIA or III I would use a Richards chassis without hesitation.

Yup..Richards Chassis for me too👍
A few pretenders out there but none match the experience Richard’s have.

Be prepared for a long wait… they still have a good order book.
We have collected a couple and it’s a great experience.

I've found a project car at the right money, but needs a new chassis and bulkhead.
BUT

He has the data plate and reg plate but no V5. I have tried searching the reg number with DVLA but no record found but then its a pre A reg registration so thats not surprising.
If I apply for V5 and the number has been allocated elsewhere what happens? Or will DVLA reissue a V5 if it's been off the road for so long? 110 D250 SE HT

Do you mean an "A"-suffix plate (e.g., ABC123A) or an "A"-prefix plate (A123 ABC)? They are years apart.

If there is no record on DVLA of the registration number and you do not have a complete vehicle available for inspection then the chance of getting the original registration re-issued is extremely small. If you have the vehicle, then do not under any circumstances dismantle it until it has been available for inspection.

In such cases you absolutely must contact the registrations officer of a suitable (DVLA-approved) club such as the LRSOC for guidance. Failing to do this now, and failing to follow the officer's guidance, almost certainly guarantees loss of number.

It is hard to understand why an "A"-prefix plate would not appear on DVLA unless the associated vehicle was marked as scrapped or permanently exported (in which case DVLA will have records but they won't show on a public search).

The vehicle is complete but non runner. It has no cab/roof but then not every series does. Would DVLA reissue a number of that age? If I called DVLA would they tell me if it's scrapped or SORN (prob not SORN'd) just taken off the road years ago. 110 D250 SE HT

Aha, so pre-1962.

In that case it is almost certain that the vehicle was never registered with DVLA and DVLA may re-issue the original number if proof can be provided of what the number was, for example the old-style card log book.

It is essential that you speak to a club registration officer, and do it before doing anything with the vehicle, if you aspire to keep the original number.

If the number is re-issued it will be non-transferrable.

I have successfully done this for two of my vehicle, my 1961 Iron Fairy and a 1952 Bedford OLBD. It must be done right and you only get one shot.

And there in lies the issue, he only has the data tag and reg plate, no ther documents that I'm aware of.

So if they don't issue the "correct" V5 for it, would i get a Q plate or another age related plate? 110 D250 SE HT

as @Blackwolf states then speak to the owners club / designated officer
not an LR but with a different vehicle where all I has was the original frame number (m/cycle) then I managed to find the correct registration details via the manufacturers warranty department.........
my next step would have been the owners club who stated they could likely assist

Just meassgaed the vendor, he only has pics of the plate, but he says the S2 club recognise the engine number. Can that be transp[osed to a reg number or is that expecting to much of the system 110 D250 SE HT
