Since your vehicle is ex-EA it probably has (or had) dim dip. A failed dim-dip relay could be the cause of your problems.

Hi all, I had planned to replace the ignition switch and locks because the door locks are all jiggered so today after the disappointment of the light switch not fixing the issue I set about replacing the ignition switch, afterwards I thought I would check the lights and blow me down they bloody worked - totally random - don't know if it was a loose connection under there.
I had to remake a botched connection 'professionally' installed to run the fuzz light and other stuff so perhaps that was it. In the process I discovered that the indicator switch is busted too - the plastic parts are shattered so I am ordering one of those - so that's all the stalks replaced!. I'll do a final update when I get the part but hopefully this is the home straight. Defender 110 - 2012 2.2 TCDi Hard Top Utility HD. |

no pearls of wisdom, but the wiring dig's ive seen for the later pumas have a lighting relay, which is located in the battery or underseat box and a headlight relay which is supposedly located in the dash fuse box...
the lighting switch on the dash appears to supply the lighting relay in the battery box which in turn supplies the headlamp relay which then supplies the column switch... is it possible that the column switch is just supplied by that underseat lighting relay instead of a headlight relay if you are not able to see a headlight relay in the dash fuse box... maybe you have already checked out the underseat battery box lighting relay.. it does seem an odd having two relays in the wiring diagram.... not in a position to check mine atm to see what my set up is.. |

Ii know, it's quite confusing - I have both the LR diagrams and the Haynes manual and they both show relays in the under seat box AND one under the steering column on connector C0282L, the one in the main undersea box is there and is/was always working but the column one is conspicuous by its absence. Hi all, final update on this as promised, replaced the indicator switch and all good. I noticed that the new gater on the light switch is a bit stiff but hopefully it will soften up after a bit of use - it's a genuine red-box Lucas part so it should be OK.
My truck is a 2012 Puma but there are some weird stuff about it so I think it must be a transitional vehicle that has some stuff they were still working out - the alarm box is a green one (should be black apparently) and there's no secondary lighting relay as there should be by the wiring diagrams in the service docs. I guess that I'll continue to find anomalies as I go on - the nature of these beasts I think. Thanks again for all the comments and advice. Defender 110 - 2012 2.2 TCDi Hard Top Utility HD. |
