Hello all,
Hope someone here can help me out while stuck in London. Our 2007 Puma Defender has recently been fitted with a new used gearbox, new LOF clutch and master cylinder. Everything works fine when starting. But after prolonged use of the clutch for instance in traffic jams, the clutch won’t fully disengage so it’s impossible to put it ingear or take it out of gear. The liquid level is fine. The bolts inside the master slave cylinder are tight. Any other ideas what might cause this issue? Your help is greatly appreciated! Niels |

It’s the LOF POWER-master ( master cylinder ) that should not be fitted with a new clutch as it only works with bedded in clutches.
You can adjust the clutch master cylinder to improve the clutch disengagement point on the pedal. Did you mean to say brake pedal Andy ![]() You will need a couple of open ended spanner’s 10 or 13mm come to mind but I need to check,. To get to the Master cylinder you remove six screws and remove the pedal box lid. |

Yes. Definitely adjust the clutch not the brakes when you have a clutch problem

Thanks all. I will try and get some more play. See if that helps a bit.

Thought id asked the question earlier🫣
When this happens doubt you manage by pumping the pedal or does that not make any difference, |

That was the symptoms mine had when a spring had fell out the friction plate.
![]() It will then block engagement or disengagement sporadically, not cold, but when warmed up it would do it. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___ ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

That’s a very good point re the clutch springs, I assumed a new clutch was fitted with the new gearbox, but it may not have been , or the new ones failed !!!

Could well be, which if that is the case very frustrating, especially as those springs can cause failure way before friction plate severe wear or slip.
I had that with LR clutches, the 2.2 slaves seem better than the early ones though. But that’s a different matter. The springs blocking gear engagement can be dangerous, what’s worse it is sporadic and happens whenever, so best looked at. And of course that is trans out. ![]() There is nothing to say you can tell, it is except for some symptoms, but I do remember hearing the spring come out, but sounds like like a bit of road debris that can happen. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___ ___\⭐️Lone|Star|State/___ ____\We|Will|Win/___ ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

Indeed, hopefully not any spring issue, as that’d be very rare, but possible. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___

So far I’vr been able to undo the clutch pedal bolt somewhat so the pedal goes down a bit further. Hopefully providing just a little bit more play. Tomorrow we will be driving from Londonto Amsterdam so we will see how we get on. Thanks all for helping out. Will update sunday.
