A new instrument cluster needs to be programmed to the vehicle. The Instrument cluster is the primary store for the VIN and the mileage. Both those items are stored on an EEPROM and reside in an area of memory that won’t let you change the VIN once programmed or allow you to reduce the mileage. So you need to get the programming completed correctly first time.
A dealer will have tools to read vin and mileage from current vehicle and move to new Instrument cluster. I don’t think a Nanocom can do it, the IDTool May be able to. A Dealer will charge a lot, but a good independent such as Bell auto services will be able to do at a reasonable cost, it’s not a time consuming activity, I.e less than 30mins. Ps mileage correction companies may ( should ) also be able to do it, however you need to find a reputable one that genuinely knows what they are doing and have the correct tools. |
