is dependant not on a "hardware part" but a combination of installed software, specific combination of sensor modules fitted and the correct bits set in the CCF

Yup - it does sound like I was wrong about the steering module (which makes sense given the lane keeping) but as per your point on sensor modules something is for sure missing, so I was right about there being some hardware missing. I have only found the one video at all online of the person saying they got it working, and that seems to be just a fairly std 22 SE model (P400). Apart from the one video I have found no other success.

TBH, I would never use, so not sure why I got over embroiled in this thread.

Link, US varient.

Takes longer than just reversing yourself. This tech is gimmicky and lame. 22MY Defender 110 D300 S in Pangea Green and Contrast White Roof

Agreed. I paid £400 to add it to a previous car a few years ago, used it once and realised it’s more complex and difficult than just parking myself! Didn’t use it again in the three years I had the car. 2025MY Defender 90 D250 X-Dynamic HSE | Santorini Black with Black Pack

Same tbh. I had on my Tiguan and Qashqai previous to that. When reversing into a parallel park it usually did a 60 shunt manoeuvre to get in. Ended up always cancelling and doing manually. If someone can't std reverse park I'm not sure why they are even driving.

Don't know if anyone is still trying to get park assist to work - I haven't tried as I know how to park all by myself .... but I did ask CGPT and here is the response I received (I have no idea if this works or not so only try if you must):

Land Rover Defender – GAP IIDTool Park Assist Guide
Enabling Park Assist, Auto PDC & Related Features via GAP IIDTool

Code Reference:
EUCD-059 → Parking Assistance → PDC (Front, Rear – Parking Parallel, Exit)
EUCD-099 → Park Assist Camera → With Park Assist Camera
EUCD-140 → PDC Auto Activation Menu → With PDC Auto Activation Menu
MultiCAN-469 → PDCAutoActivation → Default OFF configurable
MultiCAN-500 → PDCBtnFCIM → Fitted
MultiCAN-602 → PDC ECU → 10 Channel fitted (Park Assist)
MultiCAN-786 → Park Assist → Full Auto VarD (Full Auto Park Assist)

Order of Coding:
EUCD-059 → EUCD-099 → EUCD-140
MultiCAN-469 → MultiCAN-500 → MultiCAN-602 → MultiCAN-786

Reset Sequence:
Reboot PIVI (hold Power + Home 15s)
Lock vehicle, wait 5–10 mins (full sleep)

Step-by-Step Procedure
Connect IIDTool → ignition ON (engine not running).
Change EUCD codes first (059 → 099 → 140).
Then change MultiCAN codes (469 → 500 → 602 → 786).
Save & exit IIDTool.
Perform PIVI reset → hold Power + Home 15s.
Do a vehicle shutdown → lock, wait 5–10 mins.

Verification Checklist:
Park Assist App now shows up in Pivi apps.
Driver Assistance Settings → Auto Activation toggle visible.
PDC sensors activate automatically when reversing or at low speeds.
Self-parking available via Park Assist app.

Troubleshooting:
“Emergency Brake Assist Unavailable” warning → usually clears after 2–3 ignition cycles.
If Park Assist App missing → redo PIVI reset + full sleep cycle.
If PDC not working → confirm MultiCAN-602 (PDC ECU) is set to 10 Channel fitted.
If button not working → confirm MultiCAN-500 set to Fitted.

Well that is interesting, the stepped programing is not something I've heard of before with any changes.

I will give it a go when I have time, just for fun, as I too can park myself but it would be a good party trick. MY23.5 SE Defender

Let us know how you get on. Though I think it still only works on 2022 models.

I asked ChatGPT what the point of was of a post on how to do something that had only been asked of ChatGPT and not tested, as well as against hardware for any Defender that has been proven time and time again to not activate for Park Assist, regardless if the installed hardware "should" work.

This is what it said:
