Whilst quite a lot of my Defender is younger than the vehicle as a whole, virtually all the engine and attached components are original - the injectors, timing gear, By Timing gear do you mean the timing chain etc? I was planning on getting mine replaced or at least inspected at the next service as it's now over 100,000 miles, if you are well beyond that point on the originals then I'm a lot less concerned Have you had to do any preventative inspections or maintenance to achieve this? I've done nothing more than routine maintenance, but I drive sympathetically and don't do short journeys. The engine has also been de-EGRed and has a Provent fitted, both of which I believe substantially improve the likelihood of longevity.

I've had 2.4tdci transits with a couple hundred thousand miles with ease. I currently have a 2.2 with 224k on it. I had a 2.2 hole a piston with 50k on the vehicle I suspect this was due to a remap I'd usually drove the balls off it but I was experimenting with how much mag I could get out of it and it over fueled and holed this piston.
