07 2.4 110 no start (a new thread)
07 110 puma (alisport radiator, intercooler, upgraded turbo, full tank of diesel)

refitted a new vcv valve and now wont start. have BAS tune and i talked to pete but cell service in both our locations is crap so im waiting for his for his reply. but Here is what I did.
Installed new vcv
Installed back to standard tune+recovery
Ran car to 80 degrees
Pilot relearn
High pressure relearn
(car running just fine through all the relearns)
(In here I hit the a10 relearn by mistake but cancelled it)
Installed 160 tune

Car ran for a second and then died out

Installed std tune again x 2

Car ran for about 15 sec and then died

Pulled neg battery lead for 10 min

Installed neg battery lead

Relearned remote key fob. All lights blink according to instructions from internet

Car still does not start

Pulled fuel line at number 4 cylinder. Appears to be no fuel at rail. It’s just me so I cleaned off spill over fuel. Cranked engine, and noticed no fuel coming out due to area still remaining clean.

Reinstalled fuel line

Pulled up live gauges on bad app for rail pressure. Fuel pressure does not appear to move digitally.

Car does not start


let car sit for 3hrs

car doesnt start.

and when i say doesnt start, car cranks just fine but will not kick over due to no fuel


im at a loss now as to why no fuel and im thinking it has something to with immobilzer. at this point im fed up with the puma and im go do a m57 swap anyways. BUT i need the car to move because im over about 6 inches to far on my driveway that i cant get it down the drive and into the backyard to work on it fully. our driveway has a incline so its not like i can just push it forward on my own.

i havent tried the whole pull the whole gauge cluster plug yet but will try that over the weekend. it has to do with something i did with the ECU/a10 relearn but i am at a loss. i did drop a can of seafoam in the diesel tank last week but ive been driving around town prior to today with no issue.

reason i fitted new VCV valvle was because in every 1 in 4-5 starts i would get loss of power. this developed on a long drive last sept on the way home from cornwall. but normally i just restarted the car and it seemed to clear itself out. after reading around here, census was VCV valve so easy shot at that problem.

You could have ideally just changed the VCV and called it a day, as it will self learn by itself it doesn’t need a learn process, nor does it needs maps changing.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but it is true.

What process did you take when fitting the new one itself? (Physically fitting it).

Have you tried the original again? It could be a duff new one, sadly it does happen. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

i have not refitted the old one yet. i did the relearn based off conversation i had with pete @ BAS. but also i did it out of order from his instructions of high pressure reset first then pilot relearn. this was an error on my part. it was running fine with the new VCV while i was getting the engine up to 80 degrees for the relearn process.

Re-reading your post, you mentioned you removed the fuel line.
You might have an air lock in the fuel line because of that, Pumas can be a bit of a pain to purge air from the fuel line.

In the WSM there is a technique for fuel bleeding I think, but I’ve never done it.
You can get the same with the fuel filter, if it’s not pre filled with diesel.
Then you can get an air lock in the fuel line, this might be what the issue is. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Don’t think it was air lock because after i fitted the new vcv it ran well when i was bring the car to temp. And then it was running during the whole time of the relearn process. So all this time in total was well into 30-40 min. Which should have been more than enough time for any air if it was in the system to make itself known prior to this no start issue. I’ll look at the airlock issue but I do not think it’s the case.

There are sensors like the crank position sensor, that I think will allow for cranking but not fire, but the likelihood of that being a failure at the same time to fail is probably unlikely.
Presumably the alarm and immobiliser is synced as you mentioned abd the red dash light is off before cranking.

No dtcs. If I can’t get this going by Monday, I’ll just pull the ecu and go to Pete and have the immobilizer removed.

No fuel? Bleed the system as per manual.

This has been my question I’ve been searching. Does the immbolizer cur fuel or cut crank. The internet is run amuck with lies. But yes it cuts crank. So has to be fuel, and has to be some sort of vapor lock. The next question is why after replacing the vcv which should be the only way for air to enter the system as of recent did it run for so long with no issue. So I’ll bleed the system. But the mystery continues. After this situation I’m 10000000% moving to m57 swap

Had one 2.4 that won't run was the fuel pump and the pickup in the tank the plastic had cracked and letting in air for the pump I disconnected the fuel feed pipe and put a can with diesel inside and a rubber hose to it put a bit of pressure to make fuel enter pump and opened feed pipes to injectors to check if fuel coming out

It’s very plausible that there is an air leak somewhere, it might be because the VCV has been changed the vacuum pressure has changed somewhat and fuel rail pressure too.

On mine if I’ve ever left the alarm / immobiliser active and started, it would crank, start for about a couple of seconds if that then cut out $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

this guy wins the prize!!!!!£20 transfer pump from Amazon fixed it!!!! Was vapor locked. Pump on the line, 4 squeezes.. reconnected… gave it some good cranking and fired up.

That’s what you have to be careful of with the changing of the fuel filter, if it’s not pre primed right to the top you’ll get the same issue with that as well.
