One of my favourite things about mud-plugging is the decimation of my alloy wheels from all of those hidden bricks and stones, and with black paint I especially like the tree-branches and hawthorn-bushes that like to hug and tickle my bodywork leaving lots of deep wavey lines
Going through deep water-bogged mud these are brilliant and literally just walk up muddy decents. If you want to off-road like a hero buy an old shogun so you can literally bash your way through everything in front of you as you bend lower arms and break exhaust hangers. Tyres will be your biggest gain on anything you use off the tarmac. |

I’m speaking sort of in between absolutely balls out off-roading and dirt roads. I know how our Defender performs off-road, and what I’m wondering is if the plug in is any different in its off-road capability. There is no need to slander me. |

i own 90 D200 and did last week a land rover experience course with the 110 P400E.
Both are very good off road, no doubt about that. I did the balancing of power from the diesel better than the P400E, so in very steep or difficult terrain i would prefer the Diesel, but that in the details. Other thing with the 110 is the turning circkel what is small downside. |

Now that’s interesting, and I’ve not seen elsewhere.
In slow speed sections, could the petrol hybrid be switched to electric only to provide tractive torque, or does the off-road mode prevent the driver from making that selection. I am so use to a diesel on tick over conquering the terrain I have forgotten about how a petrol feels at slow speed. At least with an automatic you don’t have to balance the stall speed with the accelerator and clutch. |

You can play with the EV settings, but not in wade mode, otherwise you will damage the exhaust and filters. Giving the limited range of the battery pack big change is empty all ready when on a longer trip off road. so you will be just on the petrol engine. When in hybride mode the switches in power delivery are not allways as smooth as you would like.
But don't get me wrong, its a great offroad car and those things you will notice back to back with the diesel. But proberly not so much when the P400e is the only car. |

I did more than 6000km offroad trough Portugal Albania Kosovo Turkey and Georgia (in a continues 30000km trip from europe to georgia and back) with the P400e. I love it! Very capable and powerful.
One very big dislike: when you get stuck with a broken down car there is NO way to tow the car. I still haven’t found a way to disable the gearbox. There was a lever to change the gear from park to neutral but not anymore on the p400e and possibly also other newer models. The dealers don't know either, ridiculous. That looks cool af with the winch. I like the colour too, rare.
Was it easy to install the winch and have you needed to use it as yet? Also what failed to make you stranded? It's silly if you can't freewheel as it could even make dragging it onto a recovery bed quite risky if it's still in-gear, and I don't think I'd fancy having lifting straps rubbing against my bodywork |

I quite like it. After we got stuck in mud there was an “electrical error” and basically the DCDC converter didn’t seem to charge the starting battery anymore. After an hour with light bar on the car died. In the end it was fixed after leaving it for 2 days and charging it with another car. Another time the car just did nothing anymore , no doors didnt respond didnt start nothing. This was also magically fixed after a few days. Both cases very very annoying you can tow the car. The winch ive used about 6 times now. Mostly for others but 1 time were i got stuck in the mud in the border area with Azerbijan i was super super happy to have it. Also get the tow hooks on the back. I dont know how they can sell the car without. |
